Initially it says that discount only applies to factory unlocked phones but I ordered carrier specific phone with a discount and it went through.

5% discount on Apple gift cards I think is the mention. So you could use those gift cards on any Apple purchase effectively saving 5% of that amount.

This is true but those deals aren't that frequent. Especially for some accessories. Might be an indefinite wait.
