In the 1990s "big boys" were called "husky".

Macy's Size Ranges:

Toddler Boys (2T - 5T)
Little Boys (4 - 7)
Big Boys (8 - 20)

Children's clothing sizes roughly correspond to age. Big Boys Sizes would, in general, be for elementary-age children. Husky Sizes are usually denoted by an 'H' after the number, i.e., 12H (much as men's suits come in Regular or Short sizes).
