No I'm going to buy it outright upfront, my hope is that either walmart or bestbuy allow a non-carrier purchase and the discount.

Then just do a sim swap. I'm already on verizon with a paid-for iphone.

i so want to do the same. I hope walmart doesn't require activation. I want to buy it outright and just use my sim with my prepaid ATT

I would wait till Costco announces their deals but downside is I believe they don't sell you unlocked and outright. The upside is they don't charge you for a new sim and will incl Costco GCs

This walmart one SEEMS like a good deal at first but the two cons are they are not waiving activation fee like getting straight from carriers would usually AND these seem to be 30 month contracts if you do the match on the payments they show. So probably has to be those specific contracts.
