Right on with mixing your own. Salt substitute (such as nu-salt) is a great source of potassium, and magnesium powder is cheaply available also. This product has only 150mg of potassium per serving, while the RDA is about 3500-4500mg. Nu-salt contains 530mg per serving. The 3oz product has about 85 doses. A Two-pack costs $5 on Amz.

I know it was just a joke but you definitely need electrolytes if you have severe dehydration or you'll end up in the ER on an IV. Drinking plain water just made the symptoms worse and worse.

Pedialyte has sucralose, Walmart's generic Pedialyte has stevia, this one has stevia. There's only one brand I've seen that has monk's fruit extract (which I haven't had any gross aftertaste from so far) and it's really expensive.

At this point I've gone back to diluted Gatorade/Powerade, whatever's on sale. If you look up "make your own rehydration drink" most sites just say 'add sugar and salt' which is a terrible idea because you need dextrose, salt, carbonate, magnesium, and potassium. Why they feel the need to add stevia or sucralose when there's already dextrose in the formula is beyond me. I would rather have fully unsweetened and leave it to me whether I want awful synthetic sweeteners or awful 'natural' sweetners (stevia is disgusting idk why it's so popular).

There's a market out there for hydration packets/tablets that just have normal dextrose in them but aren't unhealthily oversweetened like the *ades.

I'm surprised to hear complaints about the taste. Not all flavors are equal but I like these better than gatorade. Everyone in my family enjoys them. In for 20.

Most people don't need these, but if you're an endurance athlete, and you keep it up year round, you're probably going to need these in the hotter parts of the year.

I don't bother with them unless I'll be working hard in 80F+ heat for 4 hours or more. If I'm going to at it for 12+ hours I'll just take a whole tube with me. I find the superior hydration these provide make it easier to get down, and keep down, solid food as fuel. It's when you're starting to bump into "ultra endurance" is when these make a huge difference in whether you're puking on the side of the trail or making it to the end.

Don't fall for marketing BS!

Working out less than 2 hours? You definitely DON'T need these.

Working out 2 to 4 hours without a break? You MIGHT need these (only if it's VERY hot and you're sweating a ton).

Working out more than 4 hours without a break? Taking 1 couldn't hurt.

I prefer Vitamin Hydrate. You can normally get it from Walmart for $5.48 for 10 packets. Way more potassium and magnesium, as well as B vitamins. The other brands I've seen go heavy in sodium, but hardly any potassium or magnesium...not sure what the best way to go is.

I bought a pack in the checkout like of a fancy food store, I normally like things like this, but these are the worst tasting product of this sort BY FAR! Bought them 6 months ago, still have 8 of them left in the container. I think I had one and one of the kids had 1. Steer clear unless you can't taste things from Coronavirus or whatever.

I bought it last time. It is not easy to fully dissolve, and my son and I don't like the taste at all. Went back to Gatorade.

Every single (natural or artificial) alternative sweetener is unkind to my taste buds. Sad! Monk's Fruit products might taste great for the first ~three seconds before slapping me with a big ICK. Least I've got beetus I mean sugar

These are pretty much just sodium tabs. Not much potassium or calcium and just a little more magnesium. The majority of people get more than enough sodium without a supplement like this, and you don't need these unless you are a marathoner or in the heat all day long.

Nuun actually aren't great electrolyte replacement salts for moderate/endurance level events. The levels are too low many heavy/salty sweaters.

For example, many people can lose over 1000mg of sodium an hour, and nuun only replaces 300mg per serving.

My son's legs and hips cramped up playing catcher the other week in 100 degree weather. We felt like idiots because we just kept giving him water and the concessions closed during the championship game so we couldn't get Gatorade. I was thinking it would be nice to have something like this in his bag just in case. Is there a better tasting alternative?

Liquid IV tastes better.

In for 800 servings? 20 x 40? How long is the shelf life?

So much nonsense advice. Weigh yourself before your 'sweaty' workout, weigh afterward and see how much water weight you dropped. Look at skin and look for salty shine versus just sweat. Smell yourself and see if it's a smell more than just pores releasing last meal. Those are all personal signs about hydration demands and then you can look at your own needs.

People sweat differently and therefore need different pre and post activity nutrition.
