This product has been discontinued and will soon not be functional. I just got my $99 refund from Samsung.
That's for the AT&T version. The Verizon version is still working and there haven't been any plans to discontinue service to it.
I had the AT&T version and got my refund for that one. When I asked smartthings about the Verizon version, they said they had no news on that. I contacted Verizon and they said they had no plans on discontinuing service. I activated mine just last month.
As far as performance, the Verizon version is so much better than the AT&T version. I was having constant issues with the AT&T version.
edit: Verizon's smartthings tracker won't probably come with 1 year of service like the new ones do. Monthly service starts at $1.50 a month and goes up to $6 a month. I'm not sure how much data it consumes but I think the $1.50 is enough for the tracker. Unlike the AT&T version, they have a website for managing service for the smartthings tracker.
I actually was having issues getting it to work (add to my smartthings app) earlier this week when I received mine from this deal, and after talking to smartthings support, they mentioned that the verizon ones were going to be cut off Oct 1st -- guess we'll see if that actually happens? It's working fine _now_ though, so here's to hoping! The customer support agent did, however, email me a link to get a refund through samsung, https://form.p1care.com/sea/adt/, though that appears to be an ADT specific link, so who knows (*maybe* they're just repurposing that process for any product that's discontinued?)
Is this a stand alone device coz I see this message
YOU NEED TO HAVE A SMARTPHONE ON A VERIZON PLAN TO USE THIS PRODUCT
I tried to use my existing verizonwireless account when signing up for the tracker service but I couldn't even login - so I created a new account during the process when adding the tracker to smartthings app and it's not tied in anyway to my phone plan
