Thanks OP

FYI /notes / thoughts

New Intel CPUs drop soon so expect AMD prices to continue some downwards pressure.
- I'm planning a 5600x build in the new year.

Next gen AMD CPUs are expected late 2022.
Between now and then there may be an interim zen 3 / 5x000+ release with extra cache 3D ram stack in response to the new Intel CPUs.

The 8 core 5800G is about the same speed as the iGPU less 6 core 5600x for heavily multi threaded compute tasks due to less cache, but obviously if you are doing light gaming or desktop use a much better value proposition in this era of GPU shortages.

If anybody wants the 5600g, it's $219.99.

Newegg shuffle is almost as bad as scalping.
You register then Newegg says you were chosen to purchase a still overpriced GPU and a motherboard that's been marked up 200% minimum.

Newegg playing the same scalper games.

5700g has 1 more gpu core than 5600g, leads to about a 3-5 frame boost for the 5700g
Thanks for that info. I've got a 3200G for a family pc. Does it all except play Witcher 3 at 60 fps.
Actually haven't even tried. Good of AMD to put out these processors but where are their GPUs???

Just a note for those who are new to these apu's
To get the best performance out of these:
Get 2 sticks of ram(dual channel) at 4400mhz cl18 or better
Most of the igpu's on these will overclock to between 2300-2400 easily
Low speed ram with high latency with the stock igpu speed will cripple the onboard graphics
The cpu is so much more powerful than the gpu that I found no reason to overclock it.
Hope this helps

For me the 5700g is the perfect jack of all trades cpu out now
Has the most powerful igpu to date.
Nearly the same single thread performance as a 5600x but with 8 cores instead of 6
Multi thread performance is in between the 5600x and the 5800x
5700g is 65 watts vs 5800x being 105 watts
Comes with a cooler 5800x doesnt
Just sold my rx 550 because my 5700g is more powerful.
Currently at the microcenter near me:
5600x-$259.99
5700g-$299.00
5800x-$349.00

Really liking these price drops.

BestBuy won't do price match for me. I think I'll just drive 13 miles to the store to get it.
You live like 20 minutes from a Microcenter and that's not your first choice? If I lived an hour away from one, BestBuy, Newegg and Amazon would never get a dime from me for anything tech related ever again.

iGPU maybe the best of the bunch but it still sucks. Look at the benchmarks. My own personal experience says, you need to be fine with barely 30fps and the lowest settings possible. Not to pc masterace it, but 30fps on a PC is choppy

Is the 5700G pretty equivalent performance to a 3700X?

Its faster than a 3700x. It much closer to a 5800x than people are going on about. As far as passmark is concerned:
5700g = 24642
5800x = 25883
3700x = 22782

For most you are not giving up much at all compared to a 5800x.

Unfortunately that particular synthetic benchmark app is widely discredited. Check out opinions on the popular discussion boards to see it is soundly trashed. If the true performance is close for gaming than I agree we the point.

Agreed! It is heaven! Smilie
I work (well, before working from home because of COVID) about 5 minutes away from MicroCenter.

It was heaven being able to quickly go and grab stuff from them over lunch!

For $50 more if you live near a microcenter, you can have a 5800x which performs significantly better.

Or only $30 more if you couple it with a motherboard.

But you then end up with a way worse CPU when you get a GPU. Its better to skip these APUs all together, buy an overpriced 1030 or better GPU, then resell it when you get a good GPU. You might lose like $20 on the GPU resale, but you end up with a significantly better CPU like 5600x>5700g and the 5600x is cheaper.

Personally id wait for Alder Lake 12th gen in a month, the 12600k will be around $260-$300, but have 5800x levels of CPU performance, have an IGP (worse IGP than these APUs), and then pair it with a GPU when you find one.
I dont think we know enough about Alderr Lake yet.

What will the wattage be? Will it be a 65 watt part like the non k series, or 125 watts? I just bought an 11500 and it has the hd 750 graphics and is a 65 watr part.

That benchmark is mostly useless. You need to check the performance on the actual game/games you play. Because some cpus run way better or worse, depending the game.

PCIe 3.0, not 4.0, for anyone that cares.

There were recent leaks that answered these questions.

The 12600k will be 125w and they're also adding a low power one that I believe is 65w.

Both will have 770hd graphics.
