Excellent price. Excellent router/access point. I've installed at least a half dozen at this point. I'm mostly an Eero guy, but for some clients Eero isn't the right choice. For those people I've used this or Velop. I've found Synology Wi-Fi very stable.

Curious if you compared this directly to the older ASUS RT-AC86U? I have been interested in replacing the of these I have (not meshed) but not sure I'm gaining any feature benefits?

Also, the two AC86U covers my 3 level, 3800sqft house. About 2 years ago, I spent 3 months trying different systems (top level AC & AX TPlink, AC Orbi, AC Google, even tried a Unifi AP connected to the ASUS), they all failed massively since my house has a lot of interior density (wood, steel beams, etc). Orbi was the closest but the wifi cameras would not stay connected and/or reconnect. I have almost no outside interference from any other signals so its for sure the house causing the issues.

The AC86U, even after trying other ASUS versions too, gave me the strongest signal and the longest range (by far) on both 2 & 5.

AC86U is a really good device for range. What features would you need? Since it looks like you are wired have you tested the Omada gear? EAP246 v3 is really nice especially when wired.

I haven't used that Asus for a bunch of years and haven't' compared it to any mesh.

But I have installed a lot of Mesh and I have to wonder if you put the units too far away from each other. Because it's surprising that all of those Mesh systems couldn't deal with your house. FYI, You don't put the satellites where you want the signal the most. You put them equidistant between where you want the signal and the primary unit (that is connected to the modem). I have had EERO work in all houses but ones that were built more than say 80 years ago.

I'm looking to do the same as I have the 2600. Are you planning on running ethernet between the two or setting this up via wifi as a bridge?

1.0 out of 5 stars READ BEFORE BUYING !!!

Style: Mesh Router MR2200ac Verified Purchase
This product contains two requirements which might be important for some buyers.

1) You will be required to connect through the company's app to allow them to perform surveillance on all of your internet traffic.

2) You will be required to agree that the Peoples' Republic of China PRC is allowed to enter your premises, search through your books, files, records, and papers so that PRC may confirm for themselves that you are not stealing their software.

I strongly suggest that you read this company's "privacy policy", user agreement, and set-up guide . . . all before you decide to purchase this item. I was shocked to discover these facts only after my return window had expired. You can read these things for yourself, and I wish someone had warned me first because now I cannot use this item with any peace of mind.
This person has never read the T&C of any device ever made.

Also, the second point is completely false and totally made up.

Access point brands shouldn't be mixed in a Mesh system. They really shouldn't be mixed in general, for best results, but in Mesh it will stop Mesh from working properly.

Number 2 is a real pain. From all of the T&C that I signed to this day, I'm getting around two visits a day from a red PRC van. When they mess with my underwear is the worst. I just wish I could schedule their home invasions so I can be around to make sure they don't leave anything out of place.

Just to answer your questions your AC86U runs for the most part circles around the MR2200AC which caps out around 550Mbps while the AC86U can get speeds depending on clients around 800Mbps. The AC86U is superior hardware in almost every case.

If you plan on using the mesh portion the MR2200AC does have better speeds at its 2nd unit cause of the dedicated back haul channel compared to AiMesh, but its been awhile since I seen reviews and this was not taking into account AiMesh 2.0 which provided Asus routers and mesh a lot of improvements.

Also this late in the game buying wifi 5 gear over $100 is just a waste.

Love this router on Merlin. It's so stable and fast. It's fixed all my homekit issues and get my advertised 1gb speeds in a three router mesh.

What's real inconvenient is when they mess with my underwear while I'm still in it.
