I've been very hesitant to use one of these services. It's not only revealing my genetic information to a company, but information about all of my blood relatives... Seems fraught with risks. I wouldn't voluntarily give the police my DNA, but that's essentially what happens with at least some of these companies. And knowing how often data leaks happen, I would expect that eventually all of this information will be publicly available.

If you have had your DNA run by any of these companies, your data is in CODIS. And if you have the gene that cures cancer or eternal life you have no patient rights to it. But that being said, it's probably not an issue for 99.9% of the people out there

You shouldn't be doing this even if they pay you $100. The terms of service allow them to sell the data to anyone they like, and once sold there is no control of it.

Thanks for the post OP. For me, it IS cheaper on the 23andme site even with $9.95 shipping. Final OTD cost was $65 on Amazon and $55 on 23andme.
