  • How Trade-In Works:
    1. Calculate your trade-in phone's value
    2. Buy your new phone online
    3. Complete your new phone purchase online and activate your phone on the carrier's network (Best Buy will help with all that.)
    4. Pick up your new phone in one of our stores
    5. Bring your trade-in phone with you when you pick up your new one. Best Buy will check to make sure you're trading in the same phone you told them about online and check for any damage that might make your trade-in ineligible for the promotion.
    6. Best Buy will take your trade-in's value off the cost of your new phone.
      • Trade-in value is calculated to represent a working phone that turns on and does not have a cracked or broken screen. Your phone will be evaluated when you trade it in to validate that it meets all requirements.
      • Your order must be picked up from a store to complete your trade-in and apply its value to your new phone purchase.

just picked up my iphone 13 pro max blue 128gb and here is the entire process:
Im upgrading / trading my iphone 11 pro max .
Pre-ordered yesterday 09/23/2021 around 10 AM.
got a text an email this morning saying its ready to pick up.( was kinda surprised about this , but ig because this best buy has less people preordered , or got more stock , im in missouri)
I backed up my old phone to my computer . and reset the phone.
Got to best buy( I was one of the first 3 people there so i got help right away) , the guy asked me for my order number and name, then told me to get with a lady.
the entire pick up was about 15 mins, she asked for my id , then my old phone, she spent most of the time input stuff into the system. I confirmed on the machine my info is correct. she handed me the new iphone new in box with a sim card on top. I asked if she need to activate the phone or anything and she said no , when i put in the phone it should activate it self. got the phone and the receipt , now im heading home.
She didnt open the new phone box at all , she didnt ask if I need to transfer my old phone data to the new phone ( might be she noticed my old phone got reset)

iPhone 13/pro is the weakest upgrade.
Only do it if you have a iPhone 8 or below.
Not worth $700/800 after all the hassle that you have to go through.
Your XR should be good through iPhone 14

those were the Costco deals with the big rebates
They didn't do it for the 12 series

Tmobile does the bill credits.
last great deal was mothers day...trading an iPhone 8 for an iPhone 12 64gb
'free' after 24 bill credits
I did exactly that. And I'm now trading in the 12 for a 13 for another $190ish after tax. I'm super curious how this will impact the bill credits. Bestbuy checkout didn't show any indication that this would impact them at all.

Wait a second. Trade in value for iPhone XR is $315. But iPhone X is $290?

Wasnt XR supposed to be inferior than X? XR was $750 base price while X was $999?
IIRC XR was released after X so it's technically a newer phone despite being a budget model

Can someone help me with a couple of questions:

1. I'm using iPhone 12 Pro unlocked purchased from apple store. I'm on T-Mobile one plan. Can I trade in my iPhone 12 Pro as Verizon so I can get $800 for trade in and using T-Mobile as the carrier for activation, so the price of the phone comes down to $899. So after trade in I'll be paying $99 plus tax. Can I please know if I can choose Verizon option as trade in?

2. Can I please know if the plan we are on matters for T-Mobile?

3. I just see the option of add a line or upgrade when I try to checkout. What does upgrade mean over here? Change in plan or anything like that?

4. Will T-Mobile charge any fee or anything if I choose upgrade?
The common understanding seems to be that in the Best Buy promotion "upgrade" means upgrading your phone, not your plan. There was no indication of updates to your plan during the Best Buy check out process or in the order confirmation afterwards.

Right before I get to checkout it says my account type isn't supported by Best Buy. Any idea why that is?
Have you fixed the issue? I am facing the same issue, and I am with the simple choice plan.

Completely agree!

$35 (activation fee) + $65 x 1.33 (T-mobile's lowest monthly plan for new customer for 40 days before you can unlock it) = $121

So you pay $121 - $100 (BB discount) = $20 to buy an unlocked phone. Why not buy an unlocked one directly from Apple?

Upgrade means you need to upgrade the plan?
I could be wrong but upgrade meas upgrade on anything, I mean on a phone it's an upgrade, on a plan it's an upgrade. So basically a phone too.

What are you referring to? $315 includes the $100 trade-in promo. Thats the correct value for iPhone XR? Without promo you will only get $215
its bullshit deal then. Trade ins are not competitive

These phone deals are all stupidly complicated I'm just going to wait. I know they make money on their plans so none of these deals are that slick imo due to the fine print. The first company that puts out a simple deal will get my money.

wow you are really a sharp mind. What about people who already have T-Mobile service and do not need to pay activation fee or $65 in monthly charge?

why open new account just ask friends or family members who have t mobile accounts than use chase CC target 10% off up to $45 credit back. I got many 20 % off apple GC from CITI YUP so ordered from apple.com.

Same here, and I don't think there's a workaround to the problem. I tried calling Best Buy, going to the physical store and calling T-Mobile. T-Mobile says that there's nothing wrong with my account (Simple Choice) and that I should be able to activate the phone. Best Buy says that they can't sell me the phone because T-Mobile will not allow them to access my type of account. I think some of us are just stuck and I don't know what the deal is because some SC customers are able to order the phone while some like you and I are not.

It's showing up as $210 for my 7 plus. Did you select anything specific to get the extra $100 off?
