For some, paying less now and in total, plus not worrying about the credits, is worth it.
Random T-Mobile numbers are getting this error message after entering phone number and SSN. "We're sorry, there was an issue processing your request. Please try again later." This is also happening on Apple's websites to those same numbers having the issues. T-Mobile is trying to fix the issue, but does not have an ETA.
So did some math and realized it's not really any great deal. (Good deal so far but you find better deals later if you are no in a hurry).
Here is the comparison: Let's say you have 12 Pro Max and wan to go to 13 Pro Max
1. Apple:
12 Pro Max Apple trade in $790.
13 Pro Max unlocked: $1099
Net w/o any taxes: $309

Im upgrading / trading my iphone 11 pro max .
Pre-ordered yesterday 09/23/2021 around 10 AM.
got a text an email this morning saying its ready to pick up.( was kinda surprised about this , but ig because this best buy has less people preordered , or got more stock , im in missouri)
I backed up my old phone to my computer . and reset the phone.
Got to best buy( I was one of the first 3 people there so i got help right away) , the guy asked me for my order number and name, then told me to get with a lady.
the entire pick up was about 15 mins, she asked for my id , then my old phone, she spent most of the time input stuff into the system. I confirmed on the machine my info is correct. she handed me the new iphone new in box with a sim card on top. I asked if she need to activate the phone or anything and she said no , when i put in the phone it should activate it self. got the phone and the receipt , now im heading home.
She didnt open the new phone box at all , she didnt ask if I need to transfer my old phone data to the new phone ( might be she noticed my old phone got reset)
Only do it if you have a iPhone 8 or below.
Not worth $700/800 after all the hassle that you have to go through.
Your XR should be good through iPhone 14

If you want to unlock the iphone, the iphone needs to be on T-Mobile network for 40 days; SIM needs to be in phone for 40 days and turned on (like ping tmobile everyday) to request the iphone to be unlocked. Once unlocked by Tmobile, then you can use another carrier sim.
Edit: nvm, saw it now. additional $100 trade in promo is rolled into the totla trade in value . trade in allowance 460 + trade in promo 100 = 560.
Activate a new line? If you do it yourself, nope. There is a way to do it online for free. Try calling Tmobile for support if needed and tell them you get an error when activating online. In store, they will try to charge your for support, not the activation.

My iPhone trade in credit is $340
The Apple-TM promo says
"T-Mobile/Sprint Special Trade-in Deal: $700 credit based on a Magenta Max rate plan and trade-in of iPhone X in good condition and (i) $200 Apple instant trade-in credit and (ii) $500 T-Mobile/Sprint bill credit."
On the apple check out page i'm only seeing $999-$340
It doesn't make sense that the $200 credit is rolled into the $340 because independent of this deal my iPhone is worth $335 for trade in. Has anyone figured this out?
