  • How Trade-In Works:
    1. Calculate your trade-in phone's value
    2. Buy your new phone online
    3. Complete your new phone purchase online and activate your phone on the carrier's network (Best Buy will help with all that.)
    4. Pick up your new phone in one of our stores
    5. Bring your trade-in phone with you when you pick up your new one. Best Buy will check to make sure you're trading in the same phone you told them about online and check for any damage that might make your trade-in ineligible for the promotion.
    6. Best Buy will take your trade-in's value off the cost of your new phone.
      • Trade-in value is calculated to represent a working phone that turns on and does not have a cracked or broken screen. Your phone will be evaluated when you trade it in to validate that it meets all requirements.
      • Your order must be picked up from a store to complete your trade-in and apply its value to your new phone purchase.

just picked up my iphone 13 pro max blue 128gb and here is the entire process:
Im upgrading / trading my iphone 11 pro max .
Pre-ordered yesterday 09/23/2021 around 10 AM.
got a text an email this morning saying its ready to pick up.( was kinda surprised about this , but ig because this best buy has less people preordered , or got more stock , im in missouri)
I backed up my old phone to my computer . and reset the phone.
Got to best buy( I was one of the first 3 people there so i got help right away) , the guy asked me for my order number and name, then told me to get with a lady.
the entire pick up was about 15 mins, she asked for my id , then my old phone, she spent most of the time input stuff into the system. I confirmed on the machine my info is correct. she handed me the new iphone new in box with a sim card on top. I asked if she need to activate the phone or anything and she said no , when i put in the phone it should activate it self. got the phone and the receipt , now im heading home.
She didnt open the new phone box at all , she didnt ask if I need to transfer my old phone data to the new phone ( might be she noticed my old phone got reset)

iPhone 13/pro is the weakest upgrade.
Only do it if you have a iPhone 8 or below.
Not worth $700/800 after all the hassle that you have to go through.
Your XR should be good through iPhone 14

Just curious, where do you think their deal will be better when it happens? Let's just use 12 Pro Max trade as example. They will give more than $875 trade in? Commitment will be less than 2 months and/or allow lower plan than $65/month Essentials? More than $100 discount?

For those that want to buy and leave asap, this deal checks a lot of boxes. I'm rooting you are correct. Just not sure where Costco will improve things over this deal.

I'm also curious what deals people expect for a trade in (specifically a XR and XS) that does not require monthly bill credits and activating another line?

Not to mention the tax savings for most people who are only charged tax on the post-trade-in price. This deal is pretty slick all around.

How picky are they about "cracks in the screen"? Mine has a small chip in the corner, off the display screen.

Did anyone in CA get charged taxes on the post-trade-in price? I was charge $83.25 in taxes and my area sales tax is 9.25%, meaning my tax base was $900...which is the $1,100 gross price net the $200 savings pre-trade in.
Yes, in CA they charge taxes based on the price minus the $200 discount (for the Max). In some other states, they charge based on the amount after taking off the trade-in value.

If I buy this against T-mobile number X and later remove the number X from the account and continue to use this phone on number Y in the same account.
Does any one see any issues? Will I be able to unlock the phone after 40 days?

FOR ALL THOSE WHO ARE HAVING TROUBLE UPGRADING AT BESTBUY.COM BECAUSE OF ERROR MESSAGES:

(I was experiencing errors immediately after entering my phone number and last 4 digits of SSN)

Call or chat with T-Mobile. Tell them that your "Account Type" needs to be changed to "Individual-Regular". That will instantly allow your order to go through.

I just spoke to T-Mobile (waited an hour, unfortunately); she confirmed my account type was "Individual-GSA" which isn't working for this promo. She was able to check that none of my promotions required the "GSA" (government) designation and made the change. As soon as she made the change, the upgrade went through on the Best Buy web site.

Obviously, ask them to make sure this won't affect your plan or discounts. The rep who made the change told me that it can easily be changed back later if needed.

Thanks to "HotlantaBraves" at this post for the clues I needed to get this done. See the MacRumors link in his/her post and read for a few pages, and you will see that this is the problem, and changing the account type worked for many people.

Does anyone know if iPhone 13 pro Sierra blue 128 GB on T-Mobile is still available?
How do I know if any color/model is no longer available?

Sierra blue Pro and Pro Max are both available for me. Regular blue is not. Just pick your model and color and if the yellow "pre order" button is there on right hand side when you scroll down it's available. Looks like their pre order inventory is changing back and forth.

If properly set up, I think this is a smoking hot deal for those on Magenta Max and who have an iphone 12 pro max to trade in.

For those who aren't with tmobile, get the 20% insider code. This gives you 20% off the plan for life. I'd suggest starting with 3 lines assuming 3rd line is free. Reddit has a bunch of codes listed there. It takes some luck and effort to get one that hasn't been used.

Make sure you're on Magenta Max. Should be $112 per month for all 3 lines. Then trade in an iphone 12 pro max. You'll pick up $790 for the trade in and $500 in tmobile credit. Repeat 2 times or for the rest of your lines.

As tmobile offers free lines, then just add them. Last year they added them in Sept, Nov, Dec. I think also in March and May as well.

You can just continue adding until you hit 10 free lines on magenta max. It will take a while but you can get there. Combine with the port in a line credit and you can make some nice money and free service.

Essentially you are trading in your iphone 12 pro max for the iphone 13 pro max and $94. I love getting paid to upgrade.

I was on the Magenta plan for $96 but paying the extra $16 per month is worth it since I'm picking up an extra $300 x 4 phones = $1200 for the trade ins. They allowed me to upgrade from Magenta to Magenta Max and carry over my 4 free lines.

quick question as a t-mobile customer - i'm on a grandfathered T-mobile One plan.

If I choose the upgrade option - there is no plan change involved, right? I want to make sure don't end up in some messy situation.

Also, I can upgrade any line that doesn't have a EIP - right? I want to make sure I don't put in a number that has a EIP associated as i think that would possibly cause an issue

So is that the same as removing the govt discount?
