  • How Trade-In Works:
    1. Calculate your trade-in phone's value
    2. Buy your new phone online
    3. Complete your new phone purchase online and activate your phone on the carrier's network (Best Buy will help with all that.)
    4. Pick up your new phone in one of our stores
    5. Bring your trade-in phone with you when you pick up your new one. Best Buy will check to make sure you're trading in the same phone you told them about online and check for any damage that might make your trade-in ineligible for the promotion.
    6. Best Buy will take your trade-in's value off the cost of your new phone.
      • Trade-in value is calculated to represent a working phone that turns on and does not have a cracked or broken screen. Your phone will be evaluated when you trade it in to validate that it meets all requirements.
      • Your order must be picked up from a store to complete your trade-in and apply its value to your new phone purchase.

just picked up my iphone 13 pro max blue 128gb and here is the entire process:
Im upgrading / trading my iphone 11 pro max .
Pre-ordered yesterday 09/23/2021 around 10 AM.
got a text an email this morning saying its ready to pick up.( was kinda surprised about this , but ig because this best buy has less people preordered , or got more stock , im in missouri)
I backed up my old phone to my computer . and reset the phone.
Got to best buy( I was one of the first 3 people there so i got help right away) , the guy asked me for my order number and name, then told me to get with a lady.
the entire pick up was about 15 mins, she asked for my id , then my old phone, she spent most of the time input stuff into the system. I confirmed on the machine my info is correct. she handed me the new iphone new in box with a sim card on top. I asked if she need to activate the phone or anything and she said no , when i put in the phone it should activate it self. got the phone and the receipt , now im heading home.
She didnt open the new phone box at all , she didnt ask if I need to transfer my old phone data to the new phone ( might be she noticed my old phone got reset)

iPhone 13/pro is the weakest upgrade.
Only do it if you have a iPhone 8 or below.
Not worth $700/800 after all the hassle that you have to go through.
Your XR should be good through iPhone 14

I went to the apple store in the morning. They had all the phones (13, pro, promax) of all colors on display. That helped me compare all the models and all colors side by side.

Anyone had success in trading in a iPhone that is still in T-Mobile EIP? I have one that is unlocked but it still has payments pending with T-Mobile. TIA.

Here's my experience in SoCal:
  • Pre-ordered the iPhone 13 Pro 256GB in Graphite and Sierra Blue on the 20th and 21st.
  • Received email and text last night telling me the phones were ready for pickup.
  • Arrived at the store 5 minutes before opening, there were 5 people ahead of us in line and then shortly after we arrived 10 more joined.
  • Went to the store pickup section as it was unclear where to go, but was redirected to the mobile section and told to check in by scanning a QR code.
  • There was a seating area and we were called by name in the order we checked in. I would say there were around 10 people there at opening who had pre-ordered and were waiting.
  • The BB rep took our phones (both reset already) and did a ton of data entry into his terminal. Had to show ID, sign, give fingerprint.
  • BB rep gave us both phones in box, unopened, with T-Mobile SIM on top. The SIM is tied to the phone number you input when purchasing. Once inserted, it will activate your new phone and deactivate your old SIM. I have no idea whether you can just pop in another carrier's SIM or another T-Mobile SIM (would be curious to know this as well). (Curiously, other people's phones were being activated on the spot - I think it's YMMV depending on which rep you get)
  • The whole process with the rep took about 10 minutes - he seemed to know what he was doing (having the phone reset already definitely helped).

My credit card officially got charged just now (charge "posted" or charged again, whatever its called). Status changed to "Preparing for Pickup Today. We'll notify you when it's ready". Still waiting for pickup email.

Yesterday at 11:15 PM I received the delay email. Looks like phones just arrived.

i want to the Union Square 14st (NYC) one, no line, no wait at 1:15pm. (Store is pretty quiet)

I traded in my iPhone 6+ and backup all the data on computer. I was gonna reset or erase the data after arrived the location, they said need to look over phone with imei and serial number. I erase everything after everything is check. The girl who was there help me dont know what she is doing, then another girl came and help. They only asked me my phone number and email address for the entire process. Total take 15 mins in the store for this. Im sure im in non-rush hour.

I have an SE 2020 on EIP ( still owe about $100)
I was going to give my Brother the SE to turn in for credit. He has his own Tmo Account.
Will this cause any issues for him at time of trade in since the phone
is on EIP with my account?

I read that in the pickup email, so they really require fingerprint.
Am I the only one that finds it ridiculous to require that for buying a phone?

seeing many positive replies from reddit, no issue. just keep paying EIP like you normally do with monthly payment.

It's like you paid a new phone yourself and switched it.
