For some, paying less now and in total, plus not worrying about the credits, is worth it.
Random T-Mobile numbers are getting this error message after entering phone number and SSN. "We're sorry, there was an issue processing your request. Please try again later." This is also happening on Apple's websites to those same numbers having the issues. T-Mobile is trying to fix the issue, but does not have an ETA.
So did some math and realized it's not really any great deal. (Good deal so far but you find better deals later if you are no in a hurry).

Pre-ordered yesterday 09/23/2021 around 10 AM.
got a text an email this morning saying its ready to pick up.( was kinda surprised about this , but ig because this best buy has less people preordered , or got more stock , im in missouri)
I backed up my old phone to my computer . and reset the phone.
Got to best buy( I was one of the first 3 people there so i got help right away) , the guy asked me for my order number and name, then told me to get with a lady.
the entire pick up was about 15 mins, she asked for my id , then my old phone, she spent most of the time input stuff into the system. I confirmed on the machine my info is correct. she handed me the new iphone new in box with a sim card on top. I asked if she need to activate the phone or anything and she said no , when i put in the phone it should activate it self. got the phone and the receipt , now im heading home.
She didnt open the new phone box at all , she didnt ask if I need to transfer my old phone data to the new phone ( might be she noticed my old phone got reset)
Only do it if you have a iPhone 8 or below.
Not worth $700/800 after all the hassle that you have to go through.
Your XR should be good through iPhone 14

BTW, you don't need to go through 156 pages. The first question in "Questions & Answers" area is similar to yours.
Employees have done the trade-in process already with other customers so luckily it was pretty easy. They checked my phone, turned off find my iPhone, checked its activation status, and IMEI. They had me reset the phone there and said that I wasn't allowed to transfer anything, luckily I had already backed up my phone on my laptop before going to BestBuy.
At one point it looked like they were activating the SIM card, but they didn't? Like many others, my new SIM card didn't work, but I went onto my BestBuy order page and clicked "setup mobile service", and entered the IMEI number, and the SIM was activated and working. They didn't open the sealed box or anything, just handed me the new SIM and the iPhone and let me go.
My receipt was also missing the extra $100 from the promotion, but they told me whatever I've been charged already is the actual price I'm paying, and their system didn't reflect the extra $100. Now I'm just waiting on T-Force to get back to me about the unlock! Thx everyone in this thread!
For those that want to buy and leave asap, this deal checks a lot of boxes. I'm rooting you are correct. Just not sure where Costco will improve things over this deal.

Two years ago on BF week, Costco dropped what used to be annually, their legendary deal where they gave out $680 trade in REBATE (NOT BILL CREDITS) for anything newer than an iphone 7 which was at that point like five years old, and you needed to be on the Magenta base plan.
You could buy a used iphone 7 for $150 from Boost Mobile unlocked, no-contract. If you put in the work, you could make $$$ by buying 4 iphone 7s (max allowed), trade them all in, sell the new phones, and only need to keep the plan for 2/3 months until you got the rebate, 4 lines was $140/month. made like $200 AND got a 11 pro after everything with just 3, and let a friend get the 4th. Dont know how you beat that, the thread in 2019 was on fire for a year because Costco would adjust the trade-in amount.
