  • How Trade-In Works:
    1. Calculate your trade-in phone's value
    2. Buy your new phone online
    3. Complete your new phone purchase online and activate your phone on the carrier's network (Best Buy will help with all that.)
    4. Pick up your new phone in one of our stores
    5. Bring your trade-in phone with you when you pick up your new one. Best Buy will check to make sure you're trading in the same phone you told them about online and check for any damage that might make your trade-in ineligible for the promotion.
    6. Best Buy will take your trade-in's value off the cost of your new phone.
      • Trade-in value is calculated to represent a working phone that turns on and does not have a cracked or broken screen. Your phone will be evaluated when you trade it in to validate that it meets all requirements.
      • Your order must be picked up from a store to complete your trade-in and apply its value to your new phone purchase.

just picked up my iphone 13 pro max blue 128gb and here is the entire process:
Im upgrading / trading my iphone 11 pro max .
Pre-ordered yesterday 09/23/2021 around 10 AM.
got a text an email this morning saying its ready to pick up.( was kinda surprised about this , but ig because this best buy has less people preordered , or got more stock , im in missouri)
I backed up my old phone to my computer . and reset the phone.
Got to best buy( I was one of the first 3 people there so i got help right away) , the guy asked me for my order number and name, then told me to get with a lady.
the entire pick up was about 15 mins, she asked for my id , then my old phone, she spent most of the time input stuff into the system. I confirmed on the machine my info is correct. she handed me the new iphone new in box with a sim card on top. I asked if she need to activate the phone or anything and she said no , when i put in the phone it should activate it self. got the phone and the receipt , now im heading home.
She didnt open the new phone box at all , she didnt ask if I need to transfer my old phone data to the new phone ( might be she noticed my old phone got reset)

iPhone 13/pro is the weakest upgrade.
Only do it if you have a iPhone 8 or below.
Not worth $700/800 after all the hassle that you have to go through.
Your XR should be good through iPhone 14

Is it better to "activate" online via the link in my order or to just turn on the phone and put the old SIM into the new iphone?
Put in your old sim card. I did on my and work just fine after the first boot up. I used it for couple days and requested unlocked via FB. It was unlocked after 2+ days after requested. I didn't bother to use the BB website.

I have unlocked iPhone 11, have magenta business 1.0 plan which is being paid by my employer. I don't have pin/ account details to put in.
I was thinking to select option to get a new number but I will not install that new simcard in. Instead I will use that old simcard in new iPhone.

My question is do I have to put the new simcard n pay for activation n plan ?
Or can I keep using old simcard and just trash the new simcard?

bestbuy said my iphone 7 has a "crack" on the top corner (although it's a light scratch) and it brought my trade in value from $155 down to $27. wtf?

what state do you live in that allowed another purchase?
I'm in Northern NJ and just about every iPhone 13/ 13 pro and 13 pro max is backordered

It says you can order and pickup soon but once you add to cart, it will not let you proceed.
thanks for the update!
Well when i say "another" it's that i upgraded another line. Family plan with multiple lines. I bought a 13PM for the wife, which she got on release day 24SEP. I decided to get my line a 13. I did the trade in thing, put in the phone number and SSN and got a green check mark no problem.

Those who traded in the phone, are you getting taxed for the full price or what? I am seeeing $36 tax on the $70 phone
It should be the tax on the price of the phone after $100 discount, $100 trade-in promotion, trade-in value and any reward certificates you apply.

I just put in the order for the 13 trading in SE2-64 in VA. It was $799 - $100 discount - $180 trade - $100 trade promo = $419.99. Tax was $25.20 on the $419.99. I used a $50 rewards certificate (from all my point banking) bringing the price to $369.99. Tax dropped to $22.20.

Gift cards are treated like cash and do nothing to effect taxes, whereas promotions and reward certificates are treated like coupons and reduce your tax.

Ohh ok. Thanks to your previous post I decided to try again and it worked. I ordered 3 13's by trading in iPhone 12's that are currently under eip plans. $85.29 each after trade in. Crazy good deal

2-3 weeks to be available

I'm curious to know how all this is handled. I don't currently use an iPhone. T-Mobile sees my Android phone when i log in. I have an old SE2 (bought from Apple store) which i stopped using. If i decide to switch to a different phone in a few months, what will happen? Is this "upgrade" option a flag they put in the system?

Nothing will happen. Tmobile just recognize what phone that you are using at the moment. That's why it shows on your Tmo account. Just switch it to SE2 and it will shows SE2 on your account in a few hour. They are just keeping track to see how long have you use the phone. One time I switched the phone to a different number in my plan and I asked them to unlock it. They told I hadn't use the phone for more than 40 days. I told them it was being used for more than 40 days on the other line. They checked and saw the record and approved my requested.

Had a really bad experience picking up a iPhone 13 tonight...This was for an upgrade.
First, they could not figure out how to complete the order. The SIM card would not scan. They even tried a second SIM card and it would not scan. After calling the bridge (their helpline) about 3 times, they finally got the order completed. This was at about the 1 hour mark.

I told them that I had a trade-in several times but the order completed without prompting for a trade-in. They called the bridge again and they said that there was no way to complete the trade-in since the order was completed. They said Best Buy would charge me the entire amount of the trade-in later at some point if I just took the new phone without completing the trade-in. The only option they said at this point was to return the new phone. By this time I did not care honestly. However, the order was not showing in their system and they said I would have to come back tomorrow to complete the return. Took about 2 hours in total and I have to go back tomorrow to complete the return (hopefully).

They said I could not purchase the same phone in store after doing the return and they have no more inventory. So, I will just end up where I started after the return tomorrow. Part of me wonders if they would charge me the $460 trade-in amount later but knowing Best Buy they probably would.

I have a question. My cousin has SPECTRUM IPHONE 11 PRO MAX. He is trying to get rid of his phone. So I might buy it from him for $400. Is it possible to trade in that SPECTRUM IPHONE to get iphone 13 series? Is it eligible for trade in?
