I hope Lenovo starts putting more discrete GPUs in their ThinkPad line as well as 16:10 screens.

The only option (that meets all of the above) right now is the ThinkPad T15g Gen 2.

edit

I forgot the X1 Extreme has a dedicated GPU available but no "custom build" options.

R is giving 10% cashback at Lenovo right now, which makes it sweeter.

However, the Costco Legion 5i has a faster cpu (i7-11800H), better screen (165hz), and two upgradable ram slots at a similar price. Only downside is it has a 3050 instead of the 3060, but if you mostly want it for work it's probably a better deal (especially considering Costco's return policy and warranty).

I did not get one thing why you guys always compare Gaming Laptops with productivity Machines and then come to that same conclusion that Gaming Laptops are better.

And regarding your idea about RTX 3060 and RTX 3050 for content creation, is pretty wrong. That GPU is not their for gaming but for works which can use that. a RTX 3060 offers significant performance advantages over RTX 3050 in any content creation workloads like Video editing in Adobe premiere and after effects, Da Vinci Resolve and rendering applications like Blender and the 6GB video memory helps a lot over there.

Seems like a decent deal. Would this be a good college laptop machine, and what can you expect for battery life with one of these?

Funny thing. People in thread say this is a lower end model than the legion 5 posted at micro enter

People in the legion 5 thread are saying it's not that great and you should look at this thread.

I also was initially excited about the Costco model in store but after com8ng home there were a couple people dumping on it.

That deal is still on so I'm considering it.

I do auto cad design work on 2 32" monitors. I also do some YouTube video editing and Christmas light sequencing.

Maybe the Costco model is the sweet spot and if I have any issues I can take it back to Costco.

Does the Costco have two ram slots or 1?

For anyone seriously considering this, the PayPal $100 off $500 may also apply:

I think these are very different machines targeting different people, and there should not be any difficulty choosing between them. One is a gaming laptop (as written in the product name) with 165Hz screen weighing 5.28lb while the other is a productivity focused laptop with 60Hz, 400 nits Display, 100% sRGB screen weighing 4.4lb (found from other sources). If you do video editing, it should be clear that you need to choose one with a good screen, and refresh rate is irrelevant.
