Edit: we got it on sale for this same $40 price a while back. I think it's a good deal.

The Costco's in nyc/li have these for 39.99… post which Costco has it for 36
It makes a difference in Costco clearance world.
I agree with other posters who have seen it at $39.99. This is a common discount of 20% and usually the holiday Lego sets have that discount when they come in. This Jeep is widely-available at online retailers that are also selling it for that price as seen in this deal post.
Usually as Costco starts to clear things out (a bit early for Christmas shopping, you'd think), some stores will reduce it to a .97 price. They usually just get one order "pallet-load?" of things like this when the holiday shopping stuff comes in. So maybe your store lowered the price already, though it seems early. If you ever find a .00 price, it will usually be much lower, but that's a manager clearance when there is only one or a few left.
All that said, I do definitely want to get this set because I have a YJ now 30 years old (the Jeep, not me; I'm older...). And of course "modding" sounds like fun on this set, as Jeeps tend to be moddable anyway. And I learned about "death wobble" I didn't know. So shopping for Lego on SlickDeals can help you make sure your vehicle is safe! Who would have thought?
