That used to be. Gig Ethernet eliminated crossover cables with Auto-MDIX.
Spend the extra $4.50 and get the 8 port. A 5 port switch fills up pretty fast, considering any switch will have 3 ports at minimum occupied right out of the box.

The switch? I've never personally had an issue with these switches.

This is a switch not a router, if that's what you think it is. You need to have router upstream of this

Ended up with a TL-SG1024DE instead, will relocate my wifi router to a more central location, and send a LAN run, back to this switch near the modem, and reduce the individual pair of 8 port unmanaged Netgears and i can repurpose my existing 8 ports gig unmanaged switches to the kids room. For some reason one of them has 7 LAN devices already installed!

Looks like it goes to this price 1-2 a year not to bad.

I know I just purchased a tp-link for $15 not long ago but would have preferred to have Netgear brand. Goes for about $10-15 used on Ebay so may be worth it for manufacturer's warranty.

I plugged in my modem to my router, router to the switch. Router works but when I put other plugs in switch with the Ethernet for the TV, PC, Chromecast it says it's connected but no internet.

They are connected to the switch. Bypass the switch to check. Take the PC cable and plug it into the port on the router that the switch is connected. Check if your PC now connects to the web.

Is it plugged into electricity? Also wire from router goes into the port closest to the led on the left. If that doesn't work it might be defective.

Also check the leds on your router. If the light above the cable running from there is red out or blinking or not solid it could be the router not recognizing it due to some settings problems due to security. I had a problem where the router blocked my ooma and it was a security thing

Some switches that are not smart require a crossover cable from the router to the switch, this "maybe" the case

All gigabit is auto-mdix, so this isn't really a thing anymore. At least for this switch.

I stand corrected then, this is not the case 👍
