Even their new products work like trash and eat batteries for breakfast and totally unreliable so I would not touch these. .

Also some sort of extra protection had to be enabled within 30 day of adding the but you are never prompted - only find out if you happen to navigate around setting.

"Tiles must be registered for Basic Reimbursement within 30 days of activation."

They know you own the tile, should not need to add this extra hidden step.

Shady practices, shit products. Would not recommend.

Have not had success with tile the times I need it to work. Have tile for my keys and wallet and it rarely finds them even if they're sitting right next to me.

Even with my xfinity wifi supporting tile to make it easier they're always out of range.

Got an AirTag and never had an issue.

Since switching to working AirTags, I've put my tiles on dumb stuff like deodorants and remotes… the tiles are still trash though, same as above post I'm next to a tile and it can't find it (full battery).

You need to be in Apple ecosystem for the Air tag. No equivalent option for Android users.

I also wonder how these are legal if I can use to track my neighbors movements without his knowledge.
You can use a Tile to track your neighbor, because it barely works. I've bought several Tiles, and they were all garbage. I'd be a foot away with clear line of sight, and the Tile would not work. The AirTags are how I wished Tile would work.

I meant the Air Tags only.
Anyone can slip one in the car trunk or under the carpet and track anyone on their Apple device.
There are several ways that would be discovered. For one thing, if your neighbor has an Apple device, they would be notified. And if the Airtag and its true owner's iPhone aren't together for a while, the tag starts making noise so it can be discovered.

This. I have an AirTag on one of our car's keys, and when my wife takes that car out, she constantly gets messages letting her know that she might be tracked.

With that being said, I wish we could share AirTags between people. I have one on our dog, and I wish I could share the AirTag with my wife. Only I can track our dog.

I like the theory that Google might buy Tile, would make sense. I can't help but think these firesale prices are a sign of something.

As for the Tile vs AirTags debate. Agree, Tile leaves a lot to be desired in terms of accuracy and reliability but I do wish Apple didn't require accessories to be able to actually use them, and the Tile Slim is awesome for wallets.

Battery lifetime is determined primarily by discharge-charge cycles (though there are a few other contributing or causal factors). A five or six year old never used and properly stored battery could readily perform as good as new.
This is a non rechargeable coin cell battery. So its battery life will definitely degrade (coin cells have internal resistance which will self discharge, even if completely disconnected). They have to replace the coin cell batteries otherwise yes, the lifetime for a 2016 cell will be pretty bad if used now.

Thanks for taking a moment to comment; I was going to grab a few but will now go for an alternative.

Is there one you recommend? I have epilepsy and as a result struggle with memory issues, ie I lose various small items multiple times in a single day. Hoping these gadgets help.

With Apple releasing their AirTags. I can already see Tile bankruptcy in the future. I wouldn't be surprised if Google bought out Tile to start developing their own AirTag.
Tile was bought out by Amazon

I'm pretty much over Apple's $$$ ecosystems, last iPad for me, gone to Android tablets, phones. The Apps, OS may not be as slick, but the price vs value, well Beta was better then VSH, but VSH won out. RISC was better then CISC, CISC won, again price vs value.

.
Not sure if you know, at this point there are plenty of cheaper apple iPhone available..... I used android as well, nothing comes close to the smooth operation of IOS granted you have more "freedom" with Android, but it most cases that just makes things more complicated for average user.

I've been happy with mine. I have one on the keychain, one in my bike saddle bag, one in my wallet. The batteries lasted over a year, and I only just replaced them all for the first time. They've helped me find my keys and wallet on numerous occasions, so I have no complaints.

No, they just partnered. Not acquired as far as I have read...
