Plenty of nice laptops available for under $1k, including many with better specs and better price than MacBook Air.
Thats not how it works. Staples, Best Buy, Amazon, etc all have exclusive PC's. There is nothing wrong with them, but they are often made for a lower price point than a general sale model. Sometimes this means cutting some corners, sometimes it means just less margins for the retailer, but they arent shoveling defective PC's to specific retailers. Same thing happens with TV's and models for black friday or superbowl sunday
I didn't realize there was a 17" MacBook Air, let alone a 17" MacBook for $800.

People who buy 17" laptops do it for a reason. A 13" is not a substitute for a 17".

Thanks OP, seems decent for a 17" laptop. Anyone have insight on whether this has an empty RAM slot, or screen details?

I have been burned twice by staples with two separate laptops one HP one Dell. Staples "exclusive" are special buys for computers that have performance problems or parts. Research it. It's fine to buy stuff from staples but steer clear of the models that you can't buy elsewhere

Full specifications from HP [hp.com]

Note the 250 nit, 45% NTSC screen, typical for the budget class.

Given that the specs specify an "AC Smart Pin" port for power, and that they do not specify the USB Type-C port as supporting charging or display out, you should be aware of these limitations, again common in the budget class.

I tried but nothing pops up on a search about it. Whenever you get a chance, would you cite a source? Reps in advance!

Same here, 8GB barely makes it. Need at least 16gb

How would that business model make any sense?

Pretty much any laptop under $1k is going to be crap. Better off opting for a MacBook air, for $800 or so.

True I am very happy with my Walmart HP Desktop. I just wish they would have more information about what they make on their site.

I can basically find nothing on this notebook. Just two sites that sell it. Two that sell DDR for it.

Looks like the $450 17.3" i3 that was on here two weeks ago but with an i5. I picked up the i3 and it is nice enough for me. Screen is big and clear, sound is adequate for my purposes. I do wish it had backlit keyboard and an SD card reader, though. Check that thread if you want more info. I believe the 8gb is a single stick with room for another stick, up to 64gb based on a commenters check at crucial.

Here's the link to the expired i3 deal: https://slickdeals.net/share/iphone_app/fp/664339

This $529.99 ASUS in-store deal might be a good alternative to this deal (supposedly available in-store only until 10/31: https://slickdeals.net/share/iphone_app/t/15266647
