It's been one of the best investments of our time.
Again, why are you looking only at our time? If you have a time machine you can travel to any time in the past. Here's another investment that destroys btc. There are tons.

Did you know that the island of Manhattan, whose current land value is estimated at $1.4 trillion, was first purchased for $24? You read that right — just $24. The long and rich history of New York City's real estate market begins in 1609 with its first European settlement.

What does this mean exactly? No one is buying a whole bitcoin to get $10 credit. They will buy the bare minimum requirement. $10 or $20 or whatever.
The first problem with opening a crypto account for such a small amount is that effective a few months ago, you have to give your social security number to Venmo who will in turn report that you have a crypto account to the IRS. Then from now on you will have to check a box on your tax return saying you have a crypto account— just as you must report to the IRS if you have a foreign bank account . The amount in that crypto account is irrelevant. I was reluctant to open a crypto account for that reason —but eventually decided to do so becuase I wanted to make a decent size investment in a couple of cryptos and this was the best way to do so directly (ie not by using ETFs) . But I never would subject my return to this kind of special attention for $10. But also what are they buying for that sum exactly. By analogy, an ounce of gold is about $1780 — if you buy $10 worth of gold what will you do with that tiny flake . Who will accept that small of a quantity of any commodity in trade for anything.

Why would you pick ten years? Just go back even farther to the stock market or real estate inception. That would destroy btc.
Mr. Beckett, a frequent time traveler, stipulates that you can only go back as far as within your lifetime. ♀️🤷

If you had a time machine, pretty sure you'd pick something more lucrative than btc.
Ummm…. What's more lucrative than like 30,000 percent return within ten years?

You have a time machine. You dont have to wait 200 years. You go back and make the investment. Fast forward 200 years and cash out. Then come back to the future with all your cash. It all takes a few seconds. Didnt you watch back to the future?
This whole discussion has taken a weird turn. Let's just agree that BTC has had a crazy run. Unless, of course, you actually have a time machine, in which case, let's talk more.

TL;DR Not free since you need to pay fees (58c for me)

PayPal had a $10 offer back in march (buy $10, get $10) - fees were $0.50 for that purchase. Today that crypto is worth $8.80 though I saw it go down to as much as $5.

I had seen this offer being targeted by Venmo but I was not seeing it at first. I did had a "learn more about Crypto" in the app and looked at it. Last week, I got the $25 offer from Venmo. Fees on were $0.58, better than PayPal, though I have not seen the credit back yet. That $25 is worth $23.15 now.

Free is free - though I wish I did accept that webinar offer for 5 BTC back in the day - I remember myself saying - meh - give me an Amazon GC or something - what the heck is this BTC crap... At least I didn't take it and lost the file somewhere... Oh well.
Fees do vary based on amount purchased. It was $0.58 for me to buy $25 of Litecoin, but they wanted $2.30 for $100 worth. So keep this in mind, but still somewhat comparable to other crypto services.
I like the integration to venmo cause I use it to pay friends all the time and I bet this will be the future, just paying crypto instead of USD.
But they def need to have more currencies available for this to gain solid traction

BTC is a pretty awesome return but nowhere near the highest. A quick Google search shows this.

An initial investment of $1,000 in Dutch East India Company would net $237,903,845,036,819,840.00 after 200 years. And thats not including bank interest on the dividends or accounting for inflation.
This makes absolutely no sense.

They give you 4 options. Litecoin, Bitcoin, Ethereum & Bitcoin Cash

I did get the $10 from the $10 offer. so total investment was 50¢ which was fees. I got my promo $10 a few days before the time period ended

No Cardano.... Boooo!

Crypto is garbage. Let it die already.
Not entirely true. But BTC at 40000+ USD is a joke,. $5 is more like it if you consider the academic merit. Unfortunately , printing press backed pros and conmen have taken over . They can even drive the price to $200K , or even a mil. but does it matter ? Exit, wash rinse and repeat.
