I'm sure some of the hotel ones are nice, but just the idea of wearing one that has been worn by hundreds or thousands of different people is kind of off putting.
I will say that we have owned a lot of Macy's hotel collection towels, robes, and sheets. they have all been very high quality and we have gotten compliments. even 2-3 years after buying them, the towels are still reasonably soft.

Do you eat at restaurants? Imagine how many people have put those forks and spoons in their mouths before you!
I would be pretty sure that more people use those items that you then touch than use the robes. Probably the least sanitary item in a hotel room is the bedspread. Which is why I like hotels that swap everything out on the bed, like a Marriott or other better chains do.
