Network guy here... 99% of the time you won't be able to see a real world difference when using it for normal runs inside your homes. Cat6 can maintain the signal better over longer runs than Cat5e, but we're talking quite a stretch. The 1% comes into play when you start transferring large amounts of data between gigabit devices, or want to use 10gig as 5e won't be able to push that.

That being said, I just built a new house and had them run Cat6 over 5e for only a few hundred more merely to be more future proof, not because of equipment I have now Cool

Everyone said they would work... but I'm going to say they won't work if your console is more than 10 feet away from your router.

I recently upgraded to FiOS's 1 gigabit plan and had to shop for a new cable. Ended up getting this 6' Cat8 cable at the time for almost a similar price for extra future proofing.

If I have to resort to snagless cables, I cut off the snagless part.

At work we've throw away multiple 100's of various length cables network cables, power cables and such. I should have grabbed more. Just not worth the time and effort when doing an office or data center move to try to untangle, sort and reuse. In one location you may have needed 300 7 foot but in new location you need 200 5 foot and 200 3 foot.

when i see these cheap cable deals my first instinct is i want, but them i remember all those cables i got from ne and their rebate processor fiasco. I did get all my rebates in the end and possibly maybe 2 extra as they didnt know what was processed and what wasnt at the very end. just now getting around to putting some of those cables to good use.

Just an FYI, I recently ordered a 50' Cat6 cable from Monoprice to run an access point. I couldn't get more than 90mb/s on wifi even though I've got 1GB fiber service. I was then diving deep into the router and modem configurations trying to figure out what was wrong. I then tried the cable directly on my laptop and ran a speed test and turns out the brand new Monoprice Cat6 cable was topping out at 100mb/s. So moral of the story, test your cable speed. I expect mine had a faulty rj45 jack, but I didn't want to mess with it. I ordered a replacement from Amazon (same type from Monoprice since they're so highly rated) and the second one works perfectly.
