Highly-rated American Standard 1.25 HP Food Waste Disposer $79.99 online but in-store it rang up at $49.97 (see receipt, DFW TX area)--this item may be getting cleared out at the B&M stores to be replaced by a slim-model of the same--there are others getting the discounted in-store price but YMMV.

Most of the slickdeals for disposals in the $50-$80 price range have been for 1/2-3/4HP range whereas this unit is much more powerful. Additionally this unit has a 10 year warranty and will be backed-up by Costco's excellent return policy.

Features:
1.25 Horsepower
10 year warranty

3-Bolt Mount System for Quick Replacement
Bio Shield Anti-Microbial for Odor Protection
Silver Guard to Protect Disposers from Falling Metal Items
Includes Power Cord/Plug

Was there any sign in store indicating the discounted price? Did you just go to checkout and hope it was discounted?

There was no sign--it just rang up that way/pleasant surprise. Not sure if this is limited to DFW area or more widespread . . . there is one other post on slickdeals about someone getting this price in the past but it looks like they also purchased in DFW area . . . hopefully it's available nationally at this price! . . . btw there are two version of this item: a "slim version" that rang up at the usual discount of $79.99 and the version from the OP that rang up at $49.97.

It was the Southlake store . . . my wife picked it up and she said it was the last one. She did mention that it was on the same shelf/area as this slim-line model of the same unit (see picture) and it was all listed as the same price with a single tag. The new slim-unit is on sale for $79.99 (which is still a great deal IMO) whereas the OP unit rang up at $49.97. I think the costco B&M are clearing out the OP units to make room for the slim-line units . . . I suspect if you find the OP unit at your local Costco it will be discounted as result although YMMV . . . it's weird that onine you can only buy the OP unit whereas in the store they seem to be transitioning to the slim-line model... if you're going to Costco anyways for your weekend run let the SD community know what you discover!

The slim version ($79.99 at Costco - I think promo expires tomorrow) is 14" from the bottom of the sink. Power cable is wired through the side so you don't need much clearance from the floor.

I picked this up at the $49.97 price about six weeks ago in Oregon specifically at the Costco closest to Seaside. Quick easy install. Very quiet. Much better build and quietness than the $99/$79 other brand they stock every day. I was going to order a different brand the super quiet from Costco online store for $300 nicer but at the $49 price I couldn't justify the five seconds of sound being "Quieter" for the cost. Great unit even better price you won't be dissapointed.

6 minute video on how to DIY install . . . it fits directly on the old unit's original flange/mounting bracket from the prior badger insinkerator which would otherwise be the most difficult part IMO . . . no need to redo the flange with plumber's putty/etc . . .

This is not a place to cheap out. What most of the cheaper units have in common is lightweight stamped cutting heads. They might be stainless steel, but they don't have enough mass to properly do the work. You can see them in this photo.

Here is a photo with a similar design but up close.

You can save yourself many headaches if you choose one of the higher end units that have heavy cast heads. Here's a picture where you can see the heavy cutting head with a heavy weight cast at the end. Consider which one would do more damage impacting the material to be disposed.

You will prevent many clogs with this style. Spending some more money on something like the Emerson InSinkErator evolution series is worth the extra cost. If you're hiring a plumber if there's an issue, the extra $150 is nothing compared to your first service call. Even if you're not, constantly unclogging a disposer isn't my idea of fun, and I personally value my time much more.

Bummer. There were none in the Lewisville store. All they had was the slim version.

I have this disposal that I installed about 2 years back. It has worked fine and I highly recommend it.
