It does not exclude preorders or Sony 1st party games, at least for right now. I just preordered Horizon Forbidden West for PS5 for $39.xx after the discount. This is a great deal.

I tried on 3 reps last night with no luck. Is it just random chance or something account related for whether they apply or not?

I actually had the offer and used it, then found more games I wanted to add (preorders). Rep did state offer not valid on those and I replied other customers have reported being able to get the discount on them and the rep had me place the order and adjusted. Also I found additional games that were out now I wanted after using the coupon once and they didn't have a problem applying it on those, so if you want to place anymore orders and the coupon is now gone just chat and tell them you forgot to add those to cart the first time you placed the order. I do spend quite a lot with Target though, so don't know if that matters or if they can even see that...

Just based on luck. So many people are going to chat now that I wouldn't be surprised if they just start shutting everyone down who aren't eligible considering all of the chat reps have probably encountered multiple people requesting this.

Not sure if it's applying to your situation specifically, but retailers do give you a customer score that reflects how valuable you are as a customer in relation to spending, returns, complaints, exchanges, etc. The better your ratio of spending-to-cost for them, the more likely they are to bend over backward for you when it matters.

I was able to pre-order Gran Turismo 7: 25th Anniversary Edition for PS5 (also includes PS4 version). Original price $89.99. Sale price, including red card $51.29. Release date March 4, 2022. Thanks OP! This was through the app after activating the promotion.

First chat try. Told rep i am not seeing the 40% discount on my account. She apologized and stated they may have had a glitch in their system so she had me place the order and refunded me 40%. Got Cod, battlefield, Horizon, rainbow six, dying light, guardians of the galaxy, Pokémon and nba 2k22 for 40% off

The thing I hate about Target preorders is that they make a new authorization charge every week on your card. So it eats up your credit limit until it ships.
