Seems to be about the "right" price for the specs. The noteworthy feature here is the larger 14" 1080p screen... though you do have to forgo a touchscreen to gain that real estate. I'd argue that the MediaTek Chromebooks do best as Android app delivery devices, so losing a touch screen might be a compromise too far. Of course, this likely makes a fine laptop for grade school academics assuming your school is in the Chromebook ecosystem.

My threshold right now for a slick deal would incorporate an Intel CPU and a touch screen (even possibly accepting 1366x768) at something just under this price point.

Good luck!

Touch screen version is $20 more. Looks like all other specs are identical.

I've been using essentially the 11" version of this Chromebook for the last two years. Same processor, 1080p resolution and 4GB of RAM. It works perfectly well.

Everyone keeps saying the benchmark score is slow and bla, blah, blah, but it does exactly what you'd expect a Chromebook to do without missing a beat. I routinely have 10+ tabs open.

I even enabled Linux apps and use GnuCash, frequently. It has no problem keeping up. It's a little slow starting, but I think that has more to do with getting the VM started than anything else. WSL2 on Windows also takes a few seconds to start up.

Build quality is also a lot better than the Samsung Chromebook 3 that this replaced.

I highly recommend this model for anyone looking for a Chromebook.

I bought the Acer 314/ Intel 4120 14" touchscreen 1080p chromebook from bigboxoverstock.com $150. Only 32gb of storage though.. Best deal I could find. New but damaged box, fast shipping, PayPal 5% back..

i snagged the higher end touch screen model. I needed a laptop asap to bring to coffee shops and use around the house. the one i got is decently bright enough for outside use. the 14" display is nice and it feels like a cheap lil macbook air.

touch screen model has muchbrighter, better quality screen.

OP's deal is dead (now $180), but Best Buy has the touchscreen version of the same Chromebook [bestbuy.com] for $200. The touchscreen is 14" 1080p 300nit IPS (170° viewing angle), compared to the 14" 1080p 220nit TN (90° viewing angle) for the non-touch screen. Worth the $30 premium IMO.

It seems that most if not all MediaTek MT8183 (and other budget ARM-based) SoC based Chromebooks don't have USB 3.0 ports. The ones I've looked at only have one USB-A 2.0 port and one USB-C 2.0 port, even for traditional clamshell style CBs which typically have 3-4 USB ports, something I find quite limiting. Most ARM SoC found in Chromebooks were originally designed for smartphones and tablets which don't need that many USB ports. The MT8183 aka Helio P60/P60T, for instance, is immensely popular in the Amazon Kindle Fire HD 10.1 (2019 and 2021 versions).

Yep, this looks like the best sub $200 chromebook out right now. Hard to find a review of the model with an ips touchscreen.

Very tempting, as my R11 touch screen is starting to poop out... though this may be a software issue driven by recent ChromeOS updates (so I'm hopeful the issue might disappear soon).

Good luck!

By any chance, is your current chromebook having problems with the trackpad causing the screen to move erratically?

I would say no, but consider that with my R11 the trackpad is getting essentially no use these days.
(My primary use case for the R11 is for web and Android touch applications)

Good luck!

I think you're correct about the abilities of the MediaTek models, but it seems as if the SnapDragon 7c devices (being based upon a more modern, higer-end ARM) do have USB 3.0 support.

Admittedly, my most common use for USB on Chromebooks has been attaching a mouse for certain web interfaces which fail to work well with touch interfaces (see my note above about how I use my R11). After that, I have on some very rare occasions connected a USB to ethernet adapter to my Chromebook. Perhaps the availability of USB 3.0 is a bigger consideration for those docking their devices to USB ethernet and video adapters?

Good luck!

This is pretty tempting with the citi $50 off $200 offer. Will make the touchscreen one $150.

Interesting comment by FakeSpot Guard;

Seller Caution
The person selling this product has a Caution by Fakespot Guard, because:
There are few reviews mentioning "Scam", "Fake tracking number", or questioning product authenticity.

Heck those reviews are on SD all the time!

(happy with my CB, but I can see me getting another sometime in the future)

I have the cheaper Acer with similar specs. I would not grab this without the touchscreen, its such a good add for the UI.
