edit: never mind $3 a month

Do you need a subscription or can you get push notifications and recorded motion events for free?

This is a little off topic but same ecosystem, I bought blink Outdoor cameras, they're ok with a subscription but without a subscription you can't really do much with these. I think you can only do live view without a subscription.

You don't need a subscription with the sync 2 module. Get a usb stick and it will store locally. I have one for my Blink Outdoor. It's not as smooth as cloud but atleast you don't need to pay.

Seems blink is lower grade ring stuff. Ring is a nightmare by itself. How hard is it to allow local storage without a subscription.

Netgear has the best cameras as far as
there cloud storage goes. You get free push notifications and they'll record motion events on to the cloud that you can watch for free on one camera

I mentioned this in an earlier post, but if you have the sync 2 module you can use local storage with a USB stick. It works the same as cloud. You'll get alerts and can view the video clips. I think if you are grandfathered in from the older Blink XT2, you can add cameras without needing a sub on that same sync module.

Without a subscription you can still record. It just goes to a USB stick on the base instead of to the cloud. There is more of a delay in viewing the recordings, but they still work. There is also no "thumbnail" on the recorded video list. I think there is something else, but I cannot remember at the moment.

I wonder if these will link up for those of us already grandfathered into the early Blinks with free storage

Wondering the same thing. I was able to add new cameras just a few months ago without having to pay for sub. But the doorbell may be a different case.

Looks like it....

What are the storage options?
Save and share unlimited videos for 60 days each, with an optional Blink Subscription Plan (sold separately). A new Blink Video Doorbell includes a free 30-day trial of the Blink Plus Plan Subscription. Anytime during the 30-day free trial, you can subscribe for just $3 per month per camera, or $10 per month for unlimited cameras on your account. You can also store videos locally on a Sync Module 2 with USB flash drive (sold separately).

Note: If your account was created on, or before April 15, 2020, the doorbell saves to your free cloud storage.

From what I have heard the design on these doorbells are horrible. You will never be able to latch the back plate on them. Good luck!
Where did you hear this? It's not even available yet.

I have to second the Blink USB Sync 2 option. I have two modules running 9 cameras and two 256gb Samsung USB drives. I can access both modules with a swipe within the app. Works like a charm. Live view, access recordings with about a 1 second delay vs cloud. I don't think you can save a live view without cloud service though.
