I've got this headset, it's excellent even at the original price. I have a crap ton of headphones and this one more than holds it's own for music and of course gaming.

Open back (my preference but some may want closed).

Fantastic mic as well. Mutes when you swing the mic up.

Wonder how these compare to the older Sennheiser Game One I have. Guessing probably not worth upgrading?
I have the Game One also which I believe are equivalent to the pc37x and these definitely have better bass and clarity. Hard to say if that's worth it to you to upgrade.

Are there features or specs in headsets that you can't find in a good pair of headphones?

1. Will these drive well with front PC audio jacks? I plugged in my old ATH-M40FS 60-ohms into my PC the other day and they didn't sound good at all and they were quiet. My Plantronics GameCom 367 sound better but they are falling apart.

2. Will these fit a small head. My ATH-M50 cans are a bit too big for me but my Philips SHP9500 fit ok if that helps.

3. How do these compare to the Philips SHP9500 cans?

Good gaming headsets, in my experience, do a bit better with locational sound mixes (surround sound effects). They're usually designed with that in mind. They also will have a decent quality mic built in that is designed to easily swing away, often a mute button, and typically built in volume and mix controls (like increasing and decreasing voice chat volume VS game audio) that are often lacking on dedicated headphones.

That said, for the same amount of money you can usually get better sounding headphones, it just won't be all-in-one. I have a Sony MDR7506, and it sounds better than headsets I've heard that cost twice as much.

Question of my own for owners: anyone who own these who can comment on how much weight they put on top of the head? Every headset I try ends up giving me headaches... Either they're heavy and pull down on top of my head, or they're pressing into the sides enough to cause pressure headaches. Pretty frustrating.

These compared to the original PC37X? Assuming I'm not buying it for the extra earcups and cable
Worthy upgrade. I have both. Love the new ones more. Fuller, richer sound. Hard to believe as the 37x are really great too. But these are better.

These are not that light, but not that heavy either. If you're really sensitive to headset weight, I wouldn't recommend these for you.

I'm not an audiophile by any means but you have limitations with the 3.5mm jack, correct? Wouldn't you rather have an integrated surround sound card and a usb or usbc input?

I just bought these a month or two ago. First pair I received had some popping going on in the right speaker, I emailed drop and they were quick with a replacement. Just coming out of the sound jacks on my motherboard they seemed a bit quiet. I paired them with a senhiser gsx1200 pro and it's a great combo... But for the price of both of these items I would have been better off buying a better quality headset. Not really sure if my on board audio would have been able to power those though. The mic is amazing on these. Switching from my logi 935's to this was night and day when it came to the mic and being able to hear footsteps. Directional sound is very good with these. The p38x is much lighter than the Logitechs and less bulky as well. Happy with my choice. Just wish I didn't have to buy an amp to feel that way. But lucky for me the amp is a nice touch and keeps things convenient during games.

Got these at this price a few months back, pretty decent the open back really produces a spacious feeling I've never experienced before I'll turn my head thinking a sound came from in my house quite often. But background noise is not blocked out at all because of this. Also low end bass in louder music seems to break up and kind of get muddy, yet a bass only test sounds fine. Not sure how to fix that but overall very solid. Mic quality is top notch also.

I have this Drop PC38X gaming headset. I also have the Sennheiser 560S with a boom mic from Amazon, the HyperX Cloud II, HyperX Alpha S. I tried the Audio Technica ATH-50X, Microsoft G Pro Wired headset and more. I've really been looking hard for a good 2-in-1 headset that I can use for both work (calls and meetings). music during work hours, and gaming after work.

I'm happiest using the Sennheiser 560S with a Boom Mic with a Mayflower ARC MK2 DAC/AMP to drive it. I basically use this for everything. This DAC/AMP is one of the few that has a Microphone input.
The 560S is very very good for music. It's well-reviewed for it's sound fidelity - accuracy and overall clean sound. It also does well for FPS gaming. When I play a shooter like Overwatch, it does well to tell me where to turn without needing 7.1 virtual sound enabled in any other source.
The ARC MK2 DAC/AMP is around $300 these days by itself, which is obviously a lot more than getting the PC38X by itself.

However, the Drop PC38X is simply a great all-rounder by itself. Great sound quality for music, coming from what's labeled as a Gaming Headset. The reviews on R-Tings and other websites are excellent, too.
I would be pretty happy just using the PC38X with onboard audio plugged directly into a desktop. On sale for $116, this is a great value for a gaming headset that sounds also great playing music and videos.

I haven't really kept up w/ sound cards and not quite sure what you mean by limitations. Different vendors may have their own software for things like surround sound or different EQ, but they usually all sound like 💩. The 3.5mm connector is perfectly fine for audio. A bit more on the technical side but 3.5mm can sound better if your mobo has a good DAC or you've invested into an external one.

I made the upgrade a month ago, tested a dozen headphones prior, these are not worth the upgrade. Both headphones are excellent. I gave my old one to a friend otherwise I would have returned the new set and kept my old GameOne.

Good to know, thanks.
I found a video of a guy comparing the two as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6mnT0A_2yY Sounds like it's worth getting the PC38X if you don't have any, but not worth upgrading from the Game One if you already have them.
