I've got this headset, it's excellent even at the original price. I have a crap ton of headphones and this one more than holds it's own for music and of course gaming.

Open back (my preference but some may want closed).

Fantastic mic as well. Mutes when you swing the mic up.

These are plug in, so they work with all consoles, and don't need charging. Mic is good and folds out of the way. Unmatched sound quality in games like Warzone where you need to know where the footsteps are coming from. Must buy at this price. I love mine.

This is the cheapest its gonna get. It's a decent budget set with a good mic.

The best bang for buck for in gaming is a HyperX Cloud2 ( a re-badged takstar pro80) from Amazon warehouse deals for $30 when they have their sales.

The Valorant team Sentinels uses the cheaper Cloud2's when they have access to any of the HyperX line.

I am currently using a pair of DT990 Pros. No complaints but I'm interested in these. Anyone know if these perform noticeably better in FPS?

They have a different sound signature and I don't think they will be better based on my experience with them. Basically little bass forward mids typical sennheiser sound of the 5xx series but worth it if your also want the mic . Have you tried the tygr 300r ? They should be fairly similar to the 990s but slightly better tuned for gaming

Thanks for the reply! I have not tried the TYGR 300R. Are they a definite step up? I was interested in these due to the price. The TYGR is $180.

Not sure about these but have you tried the older audio technica headsets (a500/700/900)? Fantastic all around and so so comfortable unless your head is tiny.

I dont think they are a definite step up but the tygr 300r are very good, there is plenty of bass, imaging, soundstage, same build quality, very comfortable etc. I would say this is a decision on your first gaming headphone/headset. If you already have a $150-$200 set, then it will seem more of a sidegrade or if you just want a different sound signature but it wont be a significant step up. That will happen with something like a $500 DT 1990 pro, or a $600 Focal elex, etc, otherwise you are trading bass for mids or for microphone or for build quality ,and so on.

I have the 935 wireless and I feel like the p38x was a definite upgrade. The spacial sound is amazing and I can locate footsteps much easier. The bass in the closed back 935 is better but I would prefer the better sound quality and lighter headset over the better bass. Wired is hard to get use to after having wireless but that's honestly the only draw back and it's not that big of a deal. I had to go back to my 935's for a week while drop rma'd my first p38x and I felt like I had lost a substantial amount of sound quality. I now use my 935's as backup or if I need to keep hearing something while I run around the house. I also run an amp with it, a senhiser gsx 1200 pro. Helps a lot with easy transitions for different audio needs and on the fly volume adjustment. Hope this helps, I think the purchase is worth it at this price. Wish I would have waited, I bought them recently and paid more.
