Further, since I am executive, I get 2% back from costco and I also get 2% from my credit card company which gives 34$.
Final deal: $816 for a 1000$ southwest card.
That's a 22% deal. If I assumed index funds give me 10% every year, I better use up these southwest credits within 2 years for a good ROI on my upfront loading of credits. I think I will.

But I'm not sure what you mean by more options. Other airlines? Okay, true. Also a good premise.
But those of us that fly Southwest a lot don't have that worry. Plus I get better cash back here than buying tickets directly on my SW card. I don't need any more points.
I used to have SW, United, AA, AMEX Cards. I got sucked into that. With work and family its impossible. I do travel at least 4-6 times per year but I found that I was better off just getting a Cashback credit card and look for the cheapest flights when its time vs being locked into a carrier. Their flight times, pricing, airports etc. I am wide open and have my options of flight times, airports, etc...
But people like what they like and if you are loyal to SW, most definitely.
edit: it even says under terms & conditions "a maximum of three (3)...per passenger on each reservation"
For $50 savings, just buy the tickets when you need them so you have more options.

It just means having to stretch it out over more flights depending on where you're flying, but it's something to be aware.

I fly over 50 times a year. SW is on my main route,
at the best price, with free bags, free standby, free cancelation, and free companion pass. Not to mention I get any seat I want and in Burbank they deplane from the back.
For me, they make frequent flying worth it. But I've never been able to appreciate getting tied to any other airline. Their policies for frequent flyers are so much less beneficial IMHO. So much hassle just trying to use miles... no thanks.
So we agree.👍
