Back in the day people in India used some Charcoal in brushing their teeth before they became familiar with toothpaste. I believe Colgate used to make fun of it. Now the same company endorses it. This is a story I heard many years ago. Not sure the truth about it. Funny how some known things can be patented by company for its profits when it used to once oppose it.
