Per Quinns: "For me, I certainly didn't love it. I went on about 4 dates with it, and I was done. I mean, if we're going to extend this analogy, I decided that I really liked their friends, but I didn't like how they kept making me go into a dungeon. Not that I've got anything against dungeons, but rather what they did to me in the dungeon displayed a certain lack of expertise."
I hope after they ship to backers that they continue to produce that for others, though it is not at all clear that they plan to.

To start, I like the game a lot. It's really fun! BUT, I don't think this is a universal game that everyone will enjoy. I think the following are REALLY important to your enjoyment. And if it doesn't click with you, that's ok! You don't have to like things and this may just not connect with you.
1) You have to like building the maps. There are little bookshelves and platforms and trees and wells and stairs and all kinds of things. If you're one of those functional people who would rather just lay out a map and "pretend" it's one layer up, this won't be for you. The settings are fun for my wife and I to construct. We like the 3-D, multi-level dungeon, and don't mind taking a bit of time to set them up.
2) You have to like apps. The game is very reliant on the app. We play with a laptop by us and a bluetooth speaker for ambiance. It's a lot of fun. The app makes this into a different experience. You can have weapons that say "has X% chance to cause Y". And you can't emulate that in a real game without a ton of bookkeeping. Your characters have weapons, abilities, equipment, and consumables. You can also craft many things. My wife doesn't enjoy the crunch of these, but I do, so after each mission I click around town and upgrade our weapons, then do a quick review. She prefers it this way.
3) You have to like stories for what they are. The writing isn't awful, but it is trope-heavy. Which is fine for us. We do character voices and read their lines for all the cutscenes. If you're someone who wants to silently read and just click through them, this game may not be for you.
4) You have to like video games. This one isn't as strong as the others, but there's a lot of app interaction. If you aren't comfortable with PC interfaces, this will be a struggle. You input who you are targeting, what weapon, and what you rolled. Most apps feel like 20%-25% interaction on the app and the remainder on the table. This is probably 50/50 split.
All-in-all, we knew what we were getting into with this game. We liked Descent 2e a lot, and I watched the previews of this one and the reviews. I don't think this is an earth-shattering amazing game. But we love it for what it is. The price tag didn't bother us because it was something we knew we would play together, and sometimes we struggle to find games like that. We went all in, thought we would like it for the reasons above, and we do really enjoy it.
