I'm not even going to bother with the litany of misinformation in your post, I'll just point out that if you use Overdrive to borrow Kindle books from the library (for free) and download the files from Amazon to your computer to transfer over USB that once the loan period from the library has ended and the books are removed from your device you can just copy the files back over USB and keep reading them forever.

These things are geared to make you pay Amazon for every book, article, and pdf. It claims to handle all formats but then denies access to everything you load from a different source. It displays an error message (DRM? RCM? I don't remember exactly) which says the device doesn't have permission to display books that do not have digital rights included. This in effect prevents you from being able to read anything but what you purchase from Amazon. Any article in pdf format is denied, even if it your own article or paper. Amazon hates Adobe and all things Google Play. If a teacher gives you a half dozen articles required class readings the Kindle devices are useless. My Kindle used to allow access to just about anything but a recent update stopped all my reading dead in its tracks. It is a power ploy by Amazon that ends up hurting consumers in their wallets. My Kindle is now a brick. Sure, I can watch some shows on it but I paid too much for a book reader, not a TV.

Any recommendation between 8gb vs 32gb? I have never used kindle so not sure how much difference it would make?


I got my answer. It more depends on if you are in to audio books, better go with 32gb otherwise 8gb is enough.

I agree with you man but there are ways to convert your books/pdf's into kindle formats.

Have you tried Calibre?

I live in Los Angeles, and we have access to Overdrive. A socialist program laugh out loud designed to give access to ebooks for free to residents of LA. What red state do you live in?

*Many cities have access to Overdrive actually. It's not just an LA or Cali thing.

I borrow ebooks from my local library. They use Overdrive app for ebooks and I download ebooks to my Kindle Papwerwhite. I really love reading Kindle books on Paperwhite. The built-in light is a huge plus, and the E-Ink (?) is better on eyes. Also, there's no glare. I heard you can put ebooks from Google Play store on Kindle products, so I am going to try since I have several ebooks in my Google Play store account.

It's just ads for other books when the device is turned off. It's really not intrusive. I tried to remove though just for fun and they said it would be like $10-15. Seemed odd they didn't give me a solid price when I asked but yeah.
