Now you got me thinking of this one vs the Canon earlier today. Hmmm... decisions decisions. I've had a similar model brother for 7 years and it's a workhorse. Don't have much experience with canon laser.

For $40 less, I personally would buy the Canon. Unless I had use for a document feeder, in which case I'd go with the Brother. These are both top brands; hard to go wrong with either.

I should also mention that the Brother has separate drum and toner cartridges, while the Canon cartridges are integrated drum and toner. If you're using generics, cost to operate will likely be close to equal, with the Brother possibly edging out a slight advantage. After using inkjets for years prior, I find all 3 of my laser printers extremely cheap to run. Having an inkjet for me was like being in a bad relationship. Constant nasty surprises, and regularly having to throw money at them just to keep some level of functionality.

I totally agree. The only success I've had with inkjet is the Epson Ecotank I got from Costco on a great deal. We've printed tons of color prints in 2 years and still have a lot of ink in them. I don't understand the integrated drum technology, but I am sticking with the Canon since it's a new item and $40 less like you said. If it becomes problematic, i'll give my in-laws my brother and deal with the Canon. I may even get the extended warranty on it. Thanks for you tips and advice. This is why SD is great. I wish I could rep you more, but it won't let me.

Thanks for your kind words. Good luck with the new Canon; I think you're going to love it. Heck of a good price too, considering the current market conditions.

I bought a Brother inkvestment printer, the problem was that before the ink even ran out it lost alignment (misaligned lines) and would randomly complain about paper jams when there were none. Since then I've given up on inkjets and hoping a laser monochrome is the way to go. Hopefully they last longer...Even though I am sad about losing the ability to print pictures at home.

How is this compared to the Brother DCP-L2550DW for $127.99 at Staples.
DCP is apparently for "intensive use". Whatever that means.... LOL

Dumb question here. I see it does duplex printing. What about duplex scanning? I'd really like to scan multiple documents with both sides through the feeder. TIA.

Got this for WFH at start of pandemic. It has been great for that. We replaced our inkjet with the comparable color model as well. No complaints, economical and just seems to work well

The difference is that this one is in stock and ready to ship. Printer prices have gone crazy lately, to the point that paying regular price is a deal if you can actually find stock to buy. Check out prices on Amazon, Staples, Walmart, and Best Buy if you doubt what I'm saying.

I got a 2750DW a while back for roughly $170. I think a document feeder is critical if you do much scanning, and I love the google drive integration on that model. Saves me a ton of time.
