Just got the email about this promo...~$2...worked with my Privacy.com card. 😊
Can only speak for myself. I usually stick with sales, and stick with rather low data plans - because the best prices are usually with those... And I'm totally fine with preloading stuff at home, and waiting til I have wifi to download games, movies, podcasts, etc. Having a plan like this to offset data usage as a temporary SIM, or even on an old phone, while the main number and/or work number are on Google Voice makes this do-able for me personally.... But this setup isn't for everyone, and I probably wouldn't do it myself if I was required to make or receive phone calls more often.

Currently, I'm on the Visible promo for 3 months, where they'll give me a $100 gift card afterwards. I'm also looking into the Beast Mobile free 1gb/mo thing (after $20+ for sim and shipping), but if it works at all, it probably won't be around for long. Also considering TextNow(?)'s free service + $5 or so SIM.

It generally isn't feasible to hop from deal to deal though. It's around this time that they seem to happen... While Mint Mobile and some other MVNOs may have service on sale via Best Buy or their site throughout other times of the year. Again, still not regular or consistent enough to only use the deals though.

Would porting out my account's number cancel the service?

I am wanting to cancel mine now and not sure how to do so.

My account was cancelled after I ported out from RP.

It shows as "closed" on the accounts page: https://www.redpocket.com/my-lines

FWIW the customer service rep told me to make sure to delete/cancel any auto-payment on the website to be doubly sure that I won't be charged after I ported the number out of RP.

Call their number: 1-712-775-8777

They'll ask for your name, address, email address, phone number, etc.

After getting your new carrier to initiate the port-out process, you may have to call back again to get them to release your number. From what I gather, they're notorious for this.

waited ONE HOUR to chat with an agent, thankfully in a few minutes I was able to get my port out information for two different accounts eventually.

They need, email, phone#, IMEI and ICCID (the pin# is actually the last 4 digits of your ICCID).

you will do the same thing again when you initiate the port. I've been through this and never again with red pocket.
