Purchase game with your Nintendo acc.
Set your Nintendo account as primary in your switch.
Login to your second switch with the same Nintendo account.
Create a secondary account in your first switch.

Now the switch games bought will be accessible in both the switches and you can even play games at the same time.
If it is $3.99 then it would have been a price mistake. Not $40

I got smash brothers last week from target for 34.19 when they had the 40% off video games deal +5% red card discount. 40% deal was fp last week. $39.99 seems high as posted here.

I have tried this to let my kids play the games I buy, and it will not let them play any of my games if I am using my switch, no matter what I am doing. They can only play my games when my switch is in sleep mode.

Old folks with switches here: do my wife and i need our own copies of this, or can we play each other with one copy?
These are physical game carts, you can swap them out and share them with each other. But only one of you can play at a time. Unless you're playing local multiplayer together on the same switch(smash).

Haven't had my coffee yet but, you can play together, like fighting against each other, on the same switch? That would require the TV mode, surely?

I can barely read the text on Stardew Valley I'm sure not sharing a screen that size!

Really torn here. Clearly this is timed w/ the release of the final character yesterday. BB also had it on sale this week at this price. According to Deku Deals it's the lowest price ever (not including targeted offers, of course). But the game is now a few years old and BF is coming. My hunch is this will go $5-10 lower for either BF or CM. It's never gotten a major BF deal like most other older Nintendo titles so it's due. What has me torn is availability since the supply chain is so screwed up. It's easy to get now. Next month with everyone shopping and a true bargain price, maybe not so much.

I don't think those instructions are correct. Your switch needs to be the Secondary. The Switch you're trying to share with needs to be the primary. It works like this:

Primary - Can play any digital game on the account without an internet connection and with any profile on the system.
Secondary - Can play any digital game on the account, but an internet connection is required to verify the game, and you can only play them using the profile that purchased them.

So you'd have your primary account on your kid's switch. This would let them play your games using their profiles. Then you'd have your account on your Switch as secondary, allowing you to play your game with your profile, assuming you have an internet connection.

This is what my partner and I do to share games. It's a bit of a pain if go on a trip, but at home, with internet always available, it works fine.

No way, I'd share the deal with my friends and family who are actually interested in this kind of thing instead of trying to price gouge them. I don't buy to scalp or to resell it in any way, at least not currently

This isn't true. You need to have your account set up on both and the game downloaded on both from your account. Your switch should always be in airplane mode. Yours kids' switch will go out for an online check and since it won't detect your switch playing the game it will allow your kids to play the same game.

Man I never knew the ins and outs of how to get the switch to work like this... that sounds awful. I've done this with my older Xbox and my wife can play everything I have access to digitally (including my game pass subscription), even playing with me online. I always figured it would be similar. But I guess Nintendo gotta be Nintendo.

Love the comments from people that say they won't buy it yet or they want to save a couple more bucks. Ok then, thanks for letting us know. Very helpful.

It's exactly the same, as far as I'm aware. I know it's exactly the same on Playstation. You can share games with any profile on the primary system, but games are locked to the purchasing profile on any secondary systems.
