Since you mentioned it, what is the comparable alternative from Dell? The dell U2720Q just arrived yesterday I bought from a recent deal posted a couple of weeks ago:

Yes the U2720Q or the P2721Q. That was a great deal on the former and it should serve you well. It's spec'ed a little bit higher than this one with 95% DCI-P3 and has more USB ports and charging up to 90W, but for most people this one should serve them about equally well since that deal it's gone now.

A couple little bonus features this has over the Dell are Freesync support and it uses a joystick control vs separate buttons, which I'm not crazy about especially when they're on the bottom edge of the monitor (and of course also the slightly larger display)

Contrast Ratio is 10,000,000:1. That's pretty good right?

It's an IPS monitor, so that contrast ratio is exaggerated. It's closer to 1000:1.

ok. best buy spec details must be wrong then. it also says that this monitor is only compatible with Windows. that cannot be right.

Not all IPS monitors are built the same.

Dell for example sells multiple versions of IPS monitor. Difference between the monitors are… USB-C hub built in… can stand height adjustable? Backlight uniformity ( I think Dell monitor S series has horrible backlight bleed)

I personally have Asus ProArt 27" QHD IPS color calibrated model for graphic pros.

I also have Lenovo Pro series 27" IPS monitor.. which is supposed to be color corrected monitor..

In my comparison…

Asus monitor has better color. I adjusted my Lenovo to match Asus.

Lenovo stand is nicer. I can adjust the height to taller height.

Lenovo has Display Daisychain. Asus Proart only can take input.

Asus Proart can have Freesync VRR.

So make sure you known what you are getting.

I picked that lenovo IPS because Lenovo has some bad ips monitors.

Not sure about HP.

Their home consumer monitors can be hit or miss (that can be said of most brands) but from my general experience their professional monitors are top tier.

You can find a number of written or YouTube reviews on this model, even though it's pretty new.

4K monitor show font a bit too small for me on a 27inch. I tried also 32inch and I need to scale down to 1440p (from 4k 2160p). My experience is that 4K monitor only good for 4k video work or it will be used as a cheaper low resolution monitor. Maybe a 36-37 inch version can work but it is too big to be viewing so close and so flat.... At least for me a curve 34 inch 1440p with high refresh rate was most comfortable to use.
To change a display scaling size using the recommended settings, use these steps:

Open Settings.
Click on System.
Click on Display.
Under the "Scale and layout" section, use the drop-down menu and select the scale settings that suit your needs. Options available include 100, 125, 150, and 175 percent.

You're welcome

Sure, but when it is scaling, it is the same as a monitor that is lower res.... But that is my observation and experience only.
That... is not how scaling works. In Windows, you enlarge the screen items (fonts/icons...) for easier viewing but it still runs at 4k for sharper images. On a Mac, they use higher resolution than what you see on screen to create a much smoother fonts. That's why iMac and Macbook always have a super high resolution screen but run at 1/4 of the resolution on the desktop.

No, scaling makes the UI bigger so you can see. Resolution stays the same. No graphical difference when scaling.

Can you help recommend a good monitor for someone who is looking to hook it up to thier laptop? I have the Lenovo Y70 touch and would like a bigger monitor to edit videos and photos.

Really depends. I use no scaling on 27" 4K. I do sit extremely close though. About 1.5-2 feet away from the screen.
32" 4K is also pretty good. I have one of those (that I'll sell used). I used no scaling on that as well and of course the fonts are larger. But since i sit so close, 27" 4K is good for me.

Its just preference.
