PS/2 ports were still in demand in the gaming community until just a couple years ago, when a lot of professional gamers still used PS/2 keyboards and mice. My MSI B550 Tomahawk still has one, and it's the most recommended AM4 gaming motherboard on the market. This is because they're analog, so they have 0 input latency and N-key rollover by default. They're also the most reliable input, as they don't use drivers so they always work. They can be helpful when the OS has been corrupted and there are driver issues, as PS/2 peripherals load even before the BIOS. Now that most modern keyboards have N-key rollover and a high polling rate, there aren't many pro gamers using them anymore. The VGA port, though, is hilarious to see on a modern PC. That said, as long as you're not going to overclock your CPU (the VRM's probably aren't great), this should be a fine motherboard. If motherboard shopping and can afford an extra 50 bucks, or so, the MSI B550 Tomahawk is the way to go, as it has USB Type-C, PCI-E Gen 4, and good VRM's. I wouldn't recommend wasting money on an expensive motherboard at the tail end of AM4, as you're going to have to get a new motherboard when you upgrade your CPU.
Would be a very slick deal if it came with onboard wifi.

How does this compare to the ASUS TUF Gaming B450M-PRO S AMD AM4? Is it just the form factor that's different?

It's also a chipset generation behind, the 450 vs 550

This is bottom of the barrel. I guess there is a reason they thought the average customer would want a dvi port and ps/2 port. This thing screams "low end work desktop" not gamer...

I would recommend a tomahawk to anyone, ive built 3-4 of both intel and amd. In fact there is high odds that im gonna be building a 12th gen intel, with a tomahawk by black friday.

this seems like a terrible deal, there is only 2 SATA ports yet two M.2 ports limited USB ports as well. No USB-C. Amazon has it for same price as well if any one doesn't like the newegg experience. I'll stick to my B450 AORUS for the time being maybe wait for the next board to release.

No WiFi is not a huge showstopper. WiFi is convenient, but for reliability and almost always guaranteed top speed and lowest latency, it is hard to beat a wired connection.

I'm not sure that's correct about there being only 2 SATA ports. I checked the manual and there are 4 SATA ports on the motherboard, and two M.2 connectors.. so that's a total of 6 drives you can install, just by using the motherboard connections. And someone could plug in external hard drives using USB ports too.. Though, I do agree there are a limited number of USB ports (only 6!). You could also attach a USB hub to get more ports, but I think a motherboard should have at least a couple more than 6.

This is the manual I checked: https://download.gigabyte.com/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_b550-gaming-x_e.pdf

Now, you may think I like Gigabyte, but quite the opposite. I have a Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite (better in some respects, worse in others than this deal) and I had no luck getting their stupid Q-Flash+ feature to work in order to update the BIOS. I just had to boot the system and hope it had a recent enough BIOS to support my AMD Ryzen 5000 CPU.. fortunately it did. Then I updated the BIOS in the booted system FROM the BIOS. What a terrible non-feature (Q-Flash+).

On top of this, Gigabyte has probably the worst customer service record of any component manufacturer. If you want proof, have a look at the Gigabyte subreddit at Reddit - https://www.reddit.com/r/gigabyte/. There are many posts by folks having issues with Gigabyte hardware, poor customer service from Gigabyte, missing RMAs, waiting 6+ months for an RMA'd GPU to be shipped back.. This company doesn't deserve our business. Oh, and their customer support site was also hacked recently, and they lost RMA information. So that means those folks who had submitted RMAs had to start over, as Gigabyte refused to pay the ransom and the hackers destroyed all the data!

I got my Gigabyte hardware (motherboard & GPU) in a Newegg shuffle purchase, before I knew of these issues. I won't be buying Gigabyte hardware in the future. Just hoping what I have purchased lasts until the next PC upgrade (~5 years). Smilie
