The best mesh router I have ever owned. Worked flawlessly until I got super greedy and spent 2K on wiring the whole home and installing TP Link EAP-660HD AP (TP Link earned my trust via M9 Plus and I didn't even consider Unifi or Zyxel or anything else).

BTW, this is much faster than crappy Google mesh system, including the newest one (I used nest mesh for few months before getting M9 Plus). Two of my extended family are still using M9 Plus and it still work flawless for them.

You are expected to get around 550 to 600 Mbps on the main router (YMMV based on your wireless interference). If you wire the satellites they will also get you same sped. Otherwise speed will be based on wireless link speed. And M9 plus has tri band. So even wireless linking works flawlessly. I was pulling close to 400Mbps in my office and on very far end of the house I was pulling about 250Mbps.

I have a 3950 square foot house. I have a 4 pack of the gen 1 Google wifi. I have computers, TVs, kids tablets, smart switches and outlets and bulbs galore. There's nothing crappy about Google mesh. I do prefer it had remained in its own app instead of being smashed into the Home app. I did install the wiring myself to each one (modem->router->switch->satellite pucks). I've never had a speed issue or failure or any problems.

Also replaced Google Wifi 1st gen with these. Huge upgrade. These routers tend to get hot underneath so best to elevate them a bit with stick-on tabs or find another solution to let them breathe easier

As many others said, easy to install it, gets hot, control is only via mobile device, somewhat regular upgrades, coverage is great. I got this a while back, installed it and it just has been working. Bought this for my in-laws and sister-in law who are not computer literate but they installed it all themselves by following app guide you download. Works very well as it should if you dont have ethernet pre-wired.

If you are into IT and need more features, then likely this might not be for you to be able to run syslogs, put data off, etc. This is KISS. Plus, how can one not like Costco return policy. I have not used others Mesh, cant compare but for $200 this was a great deal when i got it.

Would anyone consider this or hold off for Black Friday and get a good WiFi 6 router for a good price?

Any important to go with a WiFi 6 compared to WiFi 5? Will it be obsolete ?

Personally I'm not buying anything WiFi 6 until 6E is more widely available and cheaper, probably 2 yrs from now. The only devices I have on my network that support AX are cell phones and there is really no advantage to me to have that much bandwidth to my phone at home. I have this M9 system and it works great, using MoCA 2.5 as backhaul.

Just wanted to support this comment. I currently have this exact mesh system set up in my home and it has been absolutely stellar for the past 9 months. Cannot recommend it enough!

So, I have a great router as far as speed and management, but wanting to get extra range for wifi. Can I run a cable from my existing router to these as sorts of satellite range extenders for WiFi? Or is this more of a stand alone?

Best Wifi mesh system I have ever used. I work in IT and work from home.

Using total of 4 to cover 4,500 sqft house over 3 levels. (50+ smart devices connected)

Want a rock-solid internet setup?

1. Subscribe to whichever internet service provider is rated best in your area. (I use Xfinity 600mbps/20mbps)
2. Use your own DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem - I recommend https://www.costco.com/netgear-ni...64287.html
3. Use TP-Link Deco M9+ mesh setup - https://www.costco.com/tp-link-de...77095.html

Yes, you can run these in AP mode but you lose some features like NAT, Parental controls, etc. but those should be managed by your existing router.

M9 plus from Costco with wired back haul. Don't try this at home, you will be disappointed in your results.

How often do you receive firmware updates and can you update via the app/ota?

Last update was from the end of January, update frequency has slowed down but I have no stability issues. Deco M9 came out in 2018 so probably not expecting many new updates other than bug fixes and security patches.

You can update via app or web interface.

Negatives.
No method of manual channel selection.
All of the mesh devices use the same channels as all other ones, not just for the 3rd backhaul band which is required to be on the same channel. No, mesh networks, roaming or fast roaming (802.1k/v/r) does not require all APs be on the same channel, they should not be for best experience and least interference.
Control of devices only through the phone app.
Backhaul 3rd wireless band appears to stay up and active as a "hidden" SSID taking up channel space even when using in all wired backhaul mode.

Positives been using a 3 pack in house in AP only mode wired backhauled with no issues and very stable. Can't speak for using them in router mode. I've had some issues with fast roaming on some things but that is devices specific, not the fault of the M9 specifically.

We can't use our LG Soundbar /Sub combo with these, there is too much interferance and we drop calls and almost all of the internet. It's bananas.

The only noticable enhancement with WiFi 6E is more channels using the additional 6GHz band so unless you have a huge number of devices or need more channel space for greater bandwidth, WiFi 6 is going to be suitable enough. WiFi 6E is a hardware upgrade so any WiFi 6 or below devices won't be able to use the 6GHz band. I think WiFi 6E will be more applicable for users in a business or large consumer setting like sporting events.

How does this compare to the NETGEAR - Nighthawk MK63 AX1800 WiFi 6 Mesh System includes Router and Two Satellite Extenders for $170 and is available in store?

https://www.costco.com/netgear---...36361.html
The reason I like the TP Link better is because they have two Ethernet ports. This allows the user to setup an Ethernet backhaul and hook up a local device. I do this at my home office. Really just eliminates the need for a switch. And each of the slave devices also have these extra ports.
