I ordered. Going to try it as I have Sony headphones and trying to have all USB-C items. I previously had JBL Xtreme 2 but sold it.

I'm between this, JBL charge 5, and Xtreme 3. Have you tried those?

The extreme 3 is going to be much louder and have more bass than the other options you mentioned, as it's a larger and more expensive
With that said the Sony xg500 is selling for $170 + tax from the same seller who is selling this speaker. The xg500 will destroy all the other options you mentioned, as it is a much larger speaker and is basically a clone of the JBL boombox.
It was only released a couple months ago and retailed for $450, and was considered a bad buy at that price as it doesn't sound quite as good as the boombox 2. With that said, it's an absolute bargain at 170, and I'm surprised the thread hasn't blown up on slick deals

if you got time, check them out at best buy. they should have demo units. they are close. probably not worth paying 4 times more for the jbl. i dont like the fact that sony has SRS in the model number. this has no SRS surround in it like the old sony products did 20years ago.

The Onyx 6 sounds better, but has MUCH worse battery life. If that matters to you, then I'd return your Onyx and buy this.

With that said, you can buy XG500 for $170 shipped on another thread here from the same seller as this. It's a certified refurbished unit, has a 2 year warrenty.
It will completely destroy the Onyx models and the XB43.

That thing is a tank! Is the sound quality there for low volume listening or is it a better as a loud speaker?

Thanks. Are you sure it isn't $200? I'm seeing $200

I was in the same boat. I bought them all to test and wound up choosing the XB43. Charge 5 is much smaller and in a different class - Its the best ultraportable, but nowhere near teh power or quality of the XB43. Comparing the Xtreme 3 and SB43 comes down to price for me. I found the XB43 on amazon renewed for 99 (Its now back at 187 on amazon renewed). But even at 120, the comparison to a $350 Xtreme3 is insane. Quality wise the Xtreme3 may be a little better if you want raw power and bass - but the XB43 is close. Ultimately Sony has the best codec - which can affect quality depending on your source. But for 1/3rd the price - its a steal. However -- The XG50 is on Slickdeals today - and it will blow the Xtreme3 out of the water. So if you want the best of all words - go with the XG50.

If you are considering this speaker, you can also get the XG500 for 169 using code LIKENEWFALL15.

Thanks for your reply. The coupon didn't work for some reason, but I'm thinking the XG May be too big for my needs (both size wise and I'm not sure how it would do at lower volume listening).

Most of my listening will be at lower volumes, like ambient levels when reading or something. How was the sound quality of the XB43 vs JBLs when at low if you recall?

That was the code I was talking about. It showed right up in the Ebay link when I was logged into my account. So I figured it would do the same for everyone else.

The XG500 is definitely a larger speaker, as it competes with (and is very similar to) the JBL Boombox 1/2. It's one of your absolute best options for beach/lake speakers, when you need a loud and waterproof speaker with really good battery life. It and the Boombox 2 are probably the two best speakers on the market for this type of use.
If all you need a speaker for is for low indoor listening, then you don't really need anything all that impressive. I'd just pickup one of the cheap smaller Anker speakers from Amazon for under $30.

Agreed! The XB43 for $99 is a bargain! I'm surprised that JBL still prices the Extreme series at a retail of $350, when there are so many other options at a much lower price point now.
I tried to let you guys on here know about the XG500, but no one else seemed to care. I don't think people realize how good of a deal it is at $170. It will crush anything under $250, and I'm surprised to see it on sale, considering how new it is.

It's $170 with the coupon. I'm sure it sounds good at low volumes, but the point of it is to play at high volumes outdoors.

Received one today and returning it. The sound quality is not there with JBL Xtreme plus it's too heavy especially without straps.
