IIRC Critter Ridder is basically spicy pepper granules to persuade critters to go elsewhere. It was the only thing that worked when I had raccoons and squirrels eating holes in my roof and throwing my insulation out into the yard.
I just googled Liquid Fence and it's similar, cinnamon, citronella, garlic, etc.
So, maybe don't jump to conclusions?

After losing a couple decorative plants to rabbits, I've found that a combination of Critter Ridder granules and Liquid Fence have done a good job of deterring everything but squirrels and chipmunks
