here in NJ it's not time yet, end of this week we're going to see 80 degrees. I'm putting this down after all the leaves have fallen

NPK 28-0-6 I don't think it's good for fall-winter application. Need some P for roots during winter. Just my 2cents

It's a big bag, I usually use Scott's triple action, this stuff seems cheaper / finer than that. Mowed then applied yesterday before a light rain, we'll see how it goes, still have tons left as I usually use two small bags of triple action

I put it down yesterday. It was the perfect damp after rain kind of day with the slight mist that continued for several hours. You want the grass damp or wet for it to apply best. It sticks to the weeds and kills them as well.
It takes several seasons but this knocks down the weeds just like it says on the bag. There is now a night and day difference between my yard and my neighbors. We used to have the same weeds all over, and now my lawn is finally a lawn.

When is the best time to apply this?
I've been putting this down in early October for years, however I did a quick search on Scott's website and surprised they recommend not one but two applications. I presume they mean this specific product 2x.

"For your best lawn, feed once in early Fall and 6-8 weeks later in late fall."

Of course Scotts want you to put it down twice they make more money by saying that, usually 1 application is fine. it is to give nutrients to the ground for a faster greenup and spring and to kill any winter weed or germination of winter weed but not summer weeds that might be in your lawn right now. It's definitely a good idea to do it when the weather is starting to get cooler in the nights are below 70° and your region.

After a year of applying Scott's products, you will have a show lawn, you'll also attract pest because moles and gophers love well fed soil.
Gotta get rid of grubs...food that attracts moles.

Perfect time to aerate, dethatch and over seed. You'll see results by November but even more next spring. Depending on where you live your clock may be running out on overseeding.
