From when I did this over the summer:

The parts needed: breaker $25, breaker interlock $50, inlet box $50, 40 ft NG hose $75, 4 prong 30 amp 75 ft power cord (to reach the back yard) $150.

Before labor, it will cost roughly $350-$400 in parts to hook this generator up to you main panel.

California people: bought this last sale and received an additional $400 from California Edison. Was told I qualified for $200, but was sent a check for $400. Not sure if it is still eligible for the rebate.

Previous threads had complains that this has a high THD (25%) - typical for these low end type of devices. This will make your LED lights flicker and your robot wife act like it's that time of the month.

I personally don't think this is super concerning - just something to keep in mind.

Pretty much standard price at Costco.. I just pulled a pic on my phone that I took in July 2019.. same price.

I know it's been lower by 100 /150 in the past but I have never been able to get it lower than this

Standard price is $999 online and $899 in store.

I picked one up today. Great reviews, quietest of the class, enough power on NG for my needs and I can use LPG or gasoline if I need more power. I'm satisfied. Oh 3 year warranty too!

Think you are asking a couple different questions.
A transfer switch can be used regardless of fuel type. A transfer switch allows you to plug your generator directly into your home without running extension cords everywhere. Playing around in the breaker box is always a risky endeavor and you should call a certified electrician to do it. Cost depends on how big your house is and how big of a transfer switch you get and if it is automatic or not. Lots of factors come into this.
The question regarding NG is separate issue and has no bearing on the transfer switch. You need to ensure that whatever size NG line you have can support the fuel requirements of the generator.
Do i recommend a transfer switch? Yes, if you can afford it as it makes turning your home on super easy. Do i recommend you install it alone with no history of who you are or what you do? NO

I noticed this today in the Charlottesville, VA location for $200 off, $599 before tax. Maybe other locations have this deeper discounted price.

If I remember correctly, I believe it was around $200 to have the transfer switch installed. Then it was another $60 because I had identified the wrong breaker for what I needed, and the guy needed to correct my mistake. That's on top of the cost of the transfer switch itself, which depends and is usually around $250.

That's still terrible and you'd need a UPS to absorb that much distortion. My northern tool generator is 5% which is about as good as you can get before going inverter style.

When you're expecting to see <25%

11 - 14% looks great!
