More power as a single unit. Reaches better speeds on wireless, more ethernet ports. More stable. Better supported.

Not that Eero units are bad, they are known for being great and simple units. Google is still on Wifi5, if I remember, so a bit of a step back if you have WiFi6 devices.

Systems like these are for those that want more control on their routers. Fine tuning. Faster speeds with better management of concurrent connections. Also, you have to be careful with mesh systems unless you know your needs well. Getting one without a dedicated backhaul (Google is your friend) means big dropoffs on the node connected devices. Fine if you plan your setup well enough.

I've had 2 mesh setups before. Samsung AC1300 (not very powerful and handoffs between nodes weren't clean, killing connections). Then the Netgear AX1800 Nighthawk 2 unit setup. Worked fine for a year, but then it didn't like my upgrade to gigabit fiber. Wouldn't get my speeds, had to mess with far too many settings. When I finally got it where I wanted it, it lost my settings. Went to check for new firmware and it hung, causing me to hard reset the whole system. I went to look to call Netgear, but apparently, after 90 days they expect you to pay for ALL support. They can simply be in my "do not send business their way" list after that.

A bit of a novella, but I hope this helps. The main takeaways I can give you is this:
Know your house, and how well signals travel - My house was built by the ancient Mayans apparently and signal does not go as far through the walls.
Know your needs - lower demand and lower speed bandwidth, you can get away much cheaper than this or the others listed.
Don't give Netgear any business - Sorry Netgear, it's been a good run, but to charge to talk to support? No thank you. I usually am the support for people I know, and I don't charge anyone I know or anyone they know for helping them. A good company supports their products better than 90 days. At least for the warranty period (1 year) is a reasonable minimum.

This will give much higher speeds if you have a gigabit internet plan. The google mesh will give you better coverage but will top out at around 300ish.

I have netgear RAx78, it does not give me a good signal distance. Is this better than what I have?

What is a basic 11AX (WIFI 6) router one can use for general home use and work from home stuff? Like you my internet speed is 100Mbps (Comcast) and I am not planning to increase it to the Gigabit speeds due to insanely high cost. Can't find any forum where they talk about normal home users who just use WiFi for Streaming, surfing and work from home.

If you're looking for a lower cost WiFi6 and keeping with Asus (recommended) I'd say the AX56U. The 55U seems to have issues with wired connections and costs about the same. Goes for about $130.

Also, if you don't already own your own modem, I can't advise enough to buy one ASAP and return theirs. Last I knew, it was about $15 a month, which is insane. For your plan, you can get the SB6183-RB ("renewed", but it's only $27 on Amazon), and it'll fit your needs perfectly. Less than 2 months rental fees, and then save $15/mo.

Thanks. I'm also interested in Asus because of their AI Mesh and software features. Especially coming for Eero where they basically hide everything and don't even let you see the logs - I actually had no complaints about them until recent months when the main router rebooted daily. Called support and they said "we don't see any issues on our end. It's probably your ISP" and that was pretty much all the help I could get. Weeks later, another firmware update went out the reboots have magically stopped.

My only concern about this router is that it's dual band, which means I'd need to wire backhaul it or lose the 5Ghz channel in an AI Mesh setup (assuming I get a tri band for the main router). But I'd really only do that for the Nest cam, where 2.4 is more appropriate anyway.

Good to hear. I'll give this one a try. Thanks.
I wouldn't expect much improved range unless your current router sucks.
Wifi 6 is mainly for improved speeds in crowded areas.
It doesn't increase range. Though it does run on 2.4ghz.
It does increase speeds at the edge of the range.

That's probably what my issue is. My wifi goes beyond my garage even, but it's probably slower than Nest wants so it complains about weak signal.

The key is wifi 6 AX. Coming from an wifi 5 AC router, it wouldn't cover my 1850sq foot home so I had to get 2, one in access point mode upstairs. I was also getting 90mbps speeds while I was paying for 400mbps.

When I upgraded to an AX router, the range was about 3x more. I no longer needed 2 routers and my speeds max out at 450 but average 300 everywhere in the house. I don't have any AX compatible devices except my phone but every single device had a much faster connection, slowest being my 7 year old laptop at 170mbps.
I hate to burst your bubble, but AX routers are generally worse relative to higher end AC stuff when configured in the same MIMO setup. You went from a Subpar/defective AC router, or channel selection was crowded to a point that interference was destroying your signal.

I test and have owned many high end routers and the higher end 4x4 AC Wave 2 stuff is still the best for a majority of AC clients. Even tested Side by side to a ~ $550 USD MSRP AXE-11000 (Sample Unit)

Would I recommend that people buy a "higher end" AC router at this point? Probably not, but theres a lot of marketing bullshit when it comes to speed or general standards of WIFI HW.

I would recommend AX68U over this unit but I'm fairly biased to internal hardware spec in certain areas.

Thanks. Yes I do have my own Modem+Router for now. Router is Archer C7 (2-3 years old) and has been lately giving me headache. Lost internet in between office meetings, to network issues all the time. Any reason why you say Asus is recommended for 11AX routers over lets say TP-link or Netgear?

I am not a router guru but I'm sharing my experience. I had no mesh asus ac1700 as the main and ac1300 in ap mode. Never got past 90mbps. All I did was replace both with 1 asus gs-ax3000 with default settings and tripled my wifi and even Lan speeds. How do you explain Lan going from 90 to 300? It's not on wifi. Yes old router was gigabit capable.

been trying to figure this out so hopefully someone who utilizes AImesh can tell me. If I add this router to my previous AImesh system, will it still give Wifi6 speeds to devices in it's range? Or will it default to the fastest speed of the other nodes?
This would be the only Wifi6 router in the mesh though I will have it as the main one, but it will be pointless to upgrade if I can't utilize wifi6

Always get a Tri-Band (1x 2.4ghz and 2x 5ghz) for Mesh ... with one 5ghz dedicated for backhaul.

Posting the FINE PRINT with emphasis on why so many have issues getting the discount to work:

In store only. Customer upon recycling of a modem, router or gateway (modem/router combo) will receive a 15% off recycle coupon toward the purchase of modem, router or gateway and a 15% off toward In-Home Wi-Fi Setup SKU: 6929147. Coupon excludes Apple, Ruckus, Luxul and Google products; and Samsung SKUs 5872506 and 5872200. Excludes online-only items. Only 1 coupon per purchase and can only be used once. Limit one coupon per household, per offer. Recycled modems, routers or gateways will not be returned under any circumstances. Not available in all locations and some stores may have additional limitations.
Yeah that "and" was why I got turned away at the first store I tried. Store manager was trying to argue that the coupon couldn't be applied because it was already on sale. I think it was actually because the computer was telling them the item couldn't be sold below a certain price. The phrase "current selling price" doesn't care that it's on sale. If I can buy it for $199, that's the current selling price. It would have said "regular" price (like the second offer (after "and") if that's what was intended. Before I went to the second store, I highlighted the word "and" to make it clear that it was 2 separate offers. Was not turned down. I may have also gotten screwed at the first store because my reward points were applied before the 15% was… not totally sure though.
