Good deal.

There are a couple previous threads (+105 or so total) on this deal with more info eg on adding RAM and another drive.

The quad core i3 does remarkably well on benchmarks, about as well as the i5 (though the i5 would likely have better battery life):

Isn't there a global chip shortage? Prices should be through the roof. Why are there plenty of laptop deals still?

This only has one slot for DDR with 8GB installed. The HP help said it was difficult to get too not as easy as just removing the back case.

Edit: Found a picture of the inside with one 8GB filled slot and another in the opposite direction empty. So most likely that is what you will get.

HP did not help.

Incorrect. There are 2 slots and it just takes a little finesse to get the case off. You need to remove the rubber grip to get to a few screws. Nothing crazy.

Rather sure you are correct. Found a picture of two. The HP Reps are not to be trusted. The picture showed one 8GB slot filled another empty.

Probably because when they are developed they already have pre-ordered certian amount of product. The car industry doesn't do they as much as do some other products. Doesn't help the car industry they they use alot of old silicone and not newer stuff that new fabs make.

most people are going to have no idea about this or care. And there are different features for different price points.

Because Intel makes its own CPUs since they have their own foundries, they dont need to fight with other corporations to get their products made, which is what the issue AMD/Apple/Nvidia/etc are facing. Apple is cutting 10% of its iphone production this year because of it.

I bought this the first time it was posted. Can confirm, 2 ram slots, and a place to put an additional drive. Lack of a fingerprint lock is annoying, but I haven't had any issue with battery life, nor screen clarity. Good desktop replacement for the money.

Actually bought this recently and went in to update some components. Yes it has two ram slots. Also there is NVME and SATA connection for upgrades too. I did see some other unused connectors, but they were a little too hard to decipher.

Any chance this particular laptop would be a lower price on bf and I should wait or should I get this now? Or would something better than this at this size will be available for bf? It's for work mainly grading papers so I like a big screen and windows.

Why is the i5 $10 less than the i3? From the comparison the i5 is a better laptop, so is that a better deal than this?
