does exclude gift cards in the offer terms, so there's a risk of clawback of the credit - which Amex has no issue of doing based on past experience

why would amex trigger the offer and then clawback the reward when the terms simply explain to you how to trigger the offer?

that's like saying "the offer is valid until nov 1st" and you make a transaction on nov 9th and it triggers the amex offer and credits your account....and then amex would clawback the reward because your transaction was made after 11/1....doesn't work that way.

Where can you sell a physical gift card for a decent return?

Delta isn't a great option out of DFW, but this is still a great deal.

because the offer trigger is automated - if it sees a purchase from an eligible merchant, then it will send the email automatically. You may still get the statement credit but Amex is KNOWN for clawbacks on these things. Figure out your risk/reward, you wont LOSE money on this, but you may be stuck with a $300 delta gift card at full price. I am not saying that they will clawback with certainty, but Ive been in the game long enough with Amex to know that they will have no hesitation to do so, especially with such a high statement credit

Offer explicitly states it excludes gift cards:

another data point -- offer triggered on desktop buying a gift card but we'll see if AMEX gets stingy and reverses any credit issued. Doesn't bother me since I'll use the gift card for travel to NYC even if i don't get the credit.

again, they may or may not do it. You wont lose money if they do, so this deal risk is pretty low unless you absolutely never fly Delta

I haven't seen any of these Delta offers on my Reserve card. I've only seen it on the Gold and Platinum Delta Amex cards. Not sure if you have a Reserve card, but that may be why.
