PU coated leather is faux... I was about to get them too until I saw that.

There's also a huge range of quality of synthetic leathers, just like there is with natural leathers. Some are fantastic and extremely durable; others are pure garbage.
Tanning natural leather is also usually a very environmentally intensive process. You don't just take a hide from a slaughterhouse and turn it straight into a pair of boots. You can't look at natural leather vs synthetic leather and know which one is actually less environmentally damaging. Depends on the specific process used for each product. Companies very rarely publish this degree of detail about their products/supply chain.
