On the fence, but how to compare between Lenovo and HP (or Dell) laptops in quality? Never used Lenovo before.
Thanks.

This looks like a good deal to me

I paid $515 open box for a Dell with a Ryzen 5500u 8GB 256GB SSD, its a great CPU that can play games. Runs FFXIV at 720p 50-60fps and games like Heroes of the Storm at 1080p 60fps

Thanks.
The key is more WHICH Dell and WHICH Lenovo....

In General, both Dell and Lenovo use a numbering system to designate build quality.

3,5,7 is generally shown as increasing build quality..

Inspiron 3000 is the lowest build quality.
Inspiron 5000 is slightly better.
Inspiron 7000 is the best for the inspiron line.

The IdeaPad can be a 3, 5 or 7 with increasing quality.
So this model would be one of their cheapest quality builds for idea Pads.

Lenovo has a more confusing "ThinkPad" lineups where they use letters to differentiate quality. Some are rather cheap....others top of the line quality.

The nice thing about Costco, however, is their return policy so if you don't like it you have 90 days to return it.

---

The fact it is a "3" does not mean do not buy.....
Just be aware that their "3" model will have cut some corners vs the IdeaPad "5", which will be more $$$ with the same CPU, RAM, SSD combo.

Keep in mind the 5500u still uses ZEN2 cores with a few tweaks to cache and a small iGPU tweak.
The 5600u uses ZEN3 cores, which will have a much bigger boost.

https://www.pcworld.com/article/3...uying.html

This does not make the 5500u a "Bad" CPU or one to avoid as per the article above....
It is just something to keep in mind....that the "5600/5800" are a noticeable step up from 5500/5700 one would think based on model numbers alone.

i5-11gen $499 vs Ryzen 5500 $499

This is faster according to most reviews. Not a lot faster they are somewhat similar. It uses 15 watts vs 25 watts so the battery should last longer.

Not sure why you think the Intel is faster. It has four cores vs six cores. Multi core is considerably faster for the Ryzen. Single core is faster on the Intel. Multi core is more and more the norm.

This is still faster than the I5 they also sell. Are you just an attack AMD Intel paid shill? Perhaps at least mention this is faster than the Intel I5. That the one you prefer, dream to have, is only 10% faster. Something you would most likely not notice in real life just if you tested the CPU.

Never yet seen something on sale where something else more expensive was not better. Unless you are looking at the most expensive in the first place.
I never referenced Intel in any comments.
I never said to not buy because it uses ZEN2 vs ZEN3 architecture.
However, a casual buyer would not realize this fact unless pointed out.

https://www.notebookcheck.com/R5-...552.0.html

In some areas, there is little difference.
Others there are large.

Yes...One has to pay more to get more.
However, one has to understand what they are comparing to make an informed choice.
