500gb is just so small nowadays… I mean for a gamer or for content creation.

Windows and a few games and your full.

Good for a boot drive if you have a slot for another NVME or 2.5" hdd.

Plus this is around the normal price per gb anyways, not that overinflated price to make it look like a good deal.

Wait foR BF/CM if you actually want to see deals… I hope.

Agreed. My minimum for new computers is 512gb for C drive (realistically 1tb min), 1tb minimum for any additional drives.

I don't keep a lot of games on my pc but that space fills up FAST.

How low will it go? It's too bad that people settle for small capacities yes, worse that there has to be so many tiers that WD can switch up controllers/nand and make drives slower after reviews are completed and get away with it.

This would be fine for most as a Boot Drive.

Is this a new revision without DRAM? This article says it has DRAM. https://www.tomshardware.com/revi...,5957.html

All you had to do is google it and click on the Anandtech link to verify it does have DRAM cache...PSA to anyone planning to buy this, WD got caught in a bait and switch to where the new SN750(not the SE version) can sometimes produce a slower write speed than the original version. They really slowed down the new SN550.

Excellent! Agreed that 500gb is too small for power users with no extra slots, but it's more than enough for a boot drive. Bait and switch aside.... I've been waiting for a quality nvme drive to plop in that $140 HP i3 deal from last month. Just waiting on a 6xxx or 3060 to complete the little powerhouse...

This is a great little boot drive. I know some people complain about the capacity but I like to run my boot drives in RAID 1 so two 500 GB drives like these are a fantastic option for my use case and when on a budget.

Isn't this more than enough for boot drive (windows I assume) and other data? What kind of usage are avg people expecting these days?

If you have multiple AAA type games installed it doesn't fit that much these days. Many games now are 60-120 gigs each. Some are even bigger - Modern Warfare is 200 gigs.

So Windows, formatting loss, and like 4-6 large games can fill it. If you typically play just one or two games at once and then uninstall or aren't a gamer/heavy media user, 512 isn't too bad though. Definitely good for a boot drive regardless.

Back in my day 140 GB SSD was enough space for a boot drive. And we had to walk 15 miles to the store to get it.

I'm old enough to remember OCZ. 1st drive was 64GB.
