YMMV, but we had an absolutely AWFUL experience with this player.

Constant freezing/skipping issues occurred on two different units.. even when using brand-new, perfectly-spotless 4K discs.

Never could just sit and enjoy a movie; always waiting for the skip or jump. Interface is like a Windows 95 program, and though we never used it for streaming, it seemed really overly simple and clunky.

Can't recommend enough that you look elsewhere for a budget player, or spend up for something a little more reliable.

Because they want to be sure to retain ownership of something they buy and to not have to pay for Internet to access it? Also, 4k from disk is often higher quality than from streaming. A 4k disk is often over 50GB of data compared to maybe 1/4 of that for streaming.

Because some of us are adults and value the advantages of physical media?

This is an OK player (doesn't have optical audio out, only coax). It's not easy to make it a multi-region, though, unlike some other Sony BD players. I'll wait until it's $100 or less to get one more.

Also a pain in the butt that you have to manually enable Dolby Vision in the settings when you have a DV UHD.

It's not so bad cause you only have to turn it on one time. It's not like the settings reset each time you put a new movie in.

Is there a benefit I'm unaware of by using this over say a new Xbox?

Is optical out needed with HDMI? Optical would need a receiver so just run the hdmi through the receiver?

Got the Panny 420 for that last BF. Very happy with it for 150. Some report the Sony locks up. YMMV.

Filthy Rob loves his panny fanny. Wait until you hear about his disgusting upscaling. I have an LG, x800, and the M2.
I agree with you

I have the Panasonic 820...it wasnt worth the money over the $90 LG refurbished unit I also own

Not Android TV, proprietary Sony interface. It has the popular stuff, Netflix, YouTube, Amazon, etc. It is pretty clunky and I don't use it.

Same price as when I bought it last December, which probably isn't surprising given inflation. Very highly recommended if your TV supports Dolby Vision but is cheap and/or has a poor built-in upscaler.

I bought the $250 65" 4K Hisense TV from last year's Black Friday sale at Best Buy. My old Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blu-Ray player output at 1080p, with the Hisense doing the upscaling to (or in the case of DVD's, the rest of the way to) 4K. Swapped it out for this player, which of course does all of the upconverting to 4K by itself. Night and day difference in the video/picture quality between the two players on the same cheap TV.
