Constant freezing/skipping issues occurred on two different units.. even when using brand-new, perfectly-spotless 4K discs.
Never could just sit and enjoy a movie; always waiting for the skip or jump. Interface is like a Windows 95 program, and though we never used it for streaming, it seemed really overly simple and clunky.
Can't recommend enough that you look elsewhere for a budget player, or spend up for something a little more reliable.

I bought my X700 May 2018 for $200, so I'm surprised to see it come up as a deal now at $149.99. I'm still happy with mine but there must be newer 4K players by now at this price?
Been a few years since I played around much with DV, so my memory is a little fuzzy. Currently I always turn it off for non DV content. If I recall correctly the intensity of the video would be increased so that you'd get a DV like affect on the brightness, but you lose a lot of detail with some things blown out by the brightness / color saturation.
Again, some content may look better but you'd have to take the time to test it which is a hassle. I know I spent a lot of time back then testing Game of Thrones Season 1, which has unpopular DV output on the 4K disc. I think I liked the blu-ray with DV on better than the 4K disc with DV. It looked quite good, but then I compared it to the HDR10 version of the 4K and that look similar to the DV enabled blu-ray but a little better.
I think I recall re-watching Seinfeld around the same time and it looked bad with DV on. It seemed like the DV effect worked best with more modern science fiction / fantasy movies or shows with big budgets.
For somebody who has a Sony 4K TV with DV, you would want the best possible way to play your 4K movies. Sadly the PS5 won't do in this case.

That said, both call themselves "4k BD players" w/out any caveats so not supporting DV on disc is pretty disingenuous. Charge me the license fee or whatever, just make sure your device does what it says on the effin' box =\

Both XBox Series X and PS5 support the latest audio codecs. However only XBox Series X supports Dolby vision for streaming apps. Like I said, neither supports it for Blu-ray playback. Purists believe that PS5 otherwise makes for a better 4K blu-ray player, but personally I think that's a wash. Enthusiasts often show comparative screenshots. The difference is usually minor to non-existent and not worth any real consideration.
